Interesting! While I have enjoyed the recent run of Craig era movies, I do hope he will keep his word this time and call it a day. I truly loved Casino Royale, but since then the freshness has faded and they seem increasingly keen to return to an older Bond style. I'd love to see someone else take the role, but if they do one last Craig film then yeah, you know Boyle can deliver something interesting to bow out with.
Ah.... it's good to know that a Bond movie is coming. Can we get Idris Elba to be the next Bond?
^ In 2022? Elba will be fifty. It's time for Woke Millennial Bond!
OK... I could go for that. We need to make a list of guys that should play James Bond and note, they have to be British. No Americans. The man who first played James Bond was a guy named Barry Nelson for an episode of Climax! back in the early days of TV for a version of Casino Royale. It didn't work and they did consider having James Brolin to play James Bond before the production of Octopussy as they even filmed auditions for Brolin. That didn't work either.
Rowan Atkinson
I think Hugh Jackman would make a good Bond, or Christopher Eccleston.
Aidan Turner.
If you've watched Poldark or Being Human then you know he has the right blend of class and intensity, and he's at an ideal age now where he's old enough to be a convincing veteran but still has another decade and a half's capability with action roles. Little-enough known that cinema audiences can primarily associate him with the role, but with enough TV work in the can that the press (in Britain at least) won't be all "who?". And obviously he's rather good looking.
Regarding Idris Elba - he may be too old for Bond now, but I'd love to see him cast as a fellow agent in the next film. I think he'd have great chemistry with Daniel Craig, in a similar manner to Sean Bean with Pierce Brosnan. Doesn't necessarily have to be a villainous role, but you know, someone on Bond's level.
Well, I'd argue that Roger Moore was problematic casting. He kind of works for the cheese-tacular style they were going for at the time (double-taking pigeon and whatnot), but quickly became very dependent on stunt doubles and couldn't really mack on nubile twenty-somethings without it looking super weird, even for the time.
If they're willing to just sign Idris up for 2-3 films then sure, he'd work very well. Bear in mind though that he's only 5 years younger than Daniel Craig, which is 1-2 films at the current rate.
Yeah but Roger Moore did make Bond his own as he struggled to find his footing with the first 2 films but after The Spy Who Loved Me, he definitely found his approach in playing Bond and made it so fun to watch until A View to a Kill where it was clear he was getting too old.
The actor who plays Bond will be playing him for 10+ years. The actor should idealy play him in his late 30's to early 50's.
ETA--Roger fuckin' Moore was the man. Even at 58 on his last Bond film.

Damn right. *Raises glass of scotch, and eyebrow, accordingly.*
But yeah, for a new Bond I think they should be reasonably young and relatively unknown. I know Elba's name gets thrown around a lot, but realistically he probably will be a bit past it by the time a new one comes around, and I'm not sure he's quite 'my type' for a Bond anyway. I'd be very happy to have a tough young black Bond though. Perhaps there's someone else out there who can take that on?
Daniel Kaluuya? In a few years from now?
It is time for a black bond for sure. With all the new talent we have with young black actors these days, there are plenty of options. I would die to at least see one bond film with Elba fitting every niche for the role. I mean, we could see a standalone film with him like we did with Dalton (Wish we got more of him) but I would rather see multiple films. Daniel Kaluuya is a great choice I think, but I feel I need to see to him in some more movies before I make that decision.
I too would love to see Idris Elba as Bond, maybe in a few years. Kaluuya in a few years if not.
This film was a surprise to me. I thought Daniel Craig was done with Bond. Never say never, I guess.
Word around the campfire is that the villain is going to be played by Helena Bonham Carter.
Only thing is he's 45. He'd be at least 48 by the time Bond 26 is released (if it's two years after Bond 25), and assuming he's 007 for a decade he'd be close to 60 by the time he retires from the role. It worked for Moore, but even he said he was too old by the time he made the last movie.
Oh boy.
Due to creative differences, Danny Boyle has bowed out as director.
