I was thinking, what if:
Spoiler: James Bond didn't really die. It's not like he was shot and there is a body that was buried. He could have slid through the silo door and been protected. It's improbable, but there is enough wiggle-room for that to happen.

Spoiler: I mean, we literally see him standing there as missiles drop on top of him. I feel like they very purposefully made sure we saw that shot so that there wouldn't be any doubt.
Besides, each Bond exists in his own universe, and this is Daniel Craig's last movie, so his survival is irrelevant to the franchise. Bond will still be back in a new set of movies just like always.

Connery/Lazenby/Moore were the same character. Don't know about Dalton, Brosnan was a soft-reboot, and Craig a full reboot. I think they will find a new actor for Bond 26 and go for another reboot, but I also think that the door was left (slightly) open for Craig.

They were the same character to a certain extent. The movies are set in present day, which means the License To Kill Bond would be in his late sixties if he were supposed to be the same character as Dr. No. Plus, you get Desmond Llewelyn playing Q from the early days into Brosnan, and then Judi Dench playing M from Brosnan to Craig, even though Casino Royale is an origin story -- it's a wibbly universe that they can kind of do whatever they want with. The Bond franchise is just not concerned with perfect continuity from Bond to Bond, which I think is cool. It allows the Craig pentalogy to be what it is, Spoiler: to literally open with him achieving 00 status and close with his death, but without meaning Bond is gone forever.
As for Craig, he's been desperately wanting to hang up the tux since before Spectre, so there's no way he's coming back outside of maybe a cameo in a prequel or something small like that. Spoiler: I wouldn't be surprised if his agreement to do NTTD stipulated that Bond had to die in a way that made it very clear there was no way he could have survived.

Also, to be clear, the Broccolis are already discussing Bond's death in interviews -- both that this version of Bond is definitely dead and that Bond as a character will never die. So while (as the end credits say) "James Bond will return," they are definitely not leaving it open for Daniel Craig to return in any way (again, likely at Craig's request).

I agree, it's unlikely that Craig will be back for Bond 26. But it could happen. The Broccolis are promoting the movie and saying one thing now, doesn't mean things could change in two years.

Some additional thoughts:
Spoiler: Overall, it was an excellent James Bond movie. While it wasn't as good as Skyfall, it was maybe the second-best in the Craig-era, tied with Casino Royale. I have very mixed feelings, however, about James Bond being killed off. Yes, JAMES BOND WILL RETURN, as it states at the end, but the Bond of the Daniel Craig-era is dead. While I thought that the ending worked, with Bond sacrificing his life to save the world and was a satisfying conclusion to the five films with Craig, it was so damn depressing. Not only is Bond dead, but he died just as he finally found happiness. Bond had everything to live for, he found the love of his life and had a daughter, even smiling as he picks up her stuffed animal right before he understands that he can never see her again as doing so would kill her (he is infected with nanobots that would kill her and Madaline, her mother). I want to leave a James Bond movie feeling exhilarated, pumped, and lost in the fantasy, not leave feeling depressed, as our hero loses everything and is blown up, so this is not the ending that I would have chosen. Life is stressful and sad enough as it is. We need our hero to save the world and get the girl, and end stating a witty quip.
So I hope, no matter how unlikely, Craig returns.

Just came home from the theater. Loved the movie much more than Spectre (that I just watched a week ago for the first time to catch up) and QoS, but not as much as CR and Skyfall. Skyfall is my #1 Craig-era film, but it's mostly because of Judi Dench.
So many thoughts. Let me write some down before I forget.
Spoiler:
The ending theme (and a line they utilized in the script a bunch of times) is 'We Have All the Time in the World' - which was also an ending theme in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, a film where Bond's new wife dies at the end but he survives. (Tables have turned this time around). The orchestral intro of the song actually fooled me for a few moments as I thought it was 'You Only Live Twice', referencing that Bond survived.
The kid looked bored AF throughout all her scenes. Couldn't they cast a different one, that would at least show some signs of life? Fear or excitement from all the action, scary people with guns, explosions? C'mon.
Was there a nod to gunbarrel sequence during Bond's walk through a circular tunnel at the end mission? He turns and shoots exactly like he does in the gunbarrels. There also a long segment which looked like a FPS game adaptation done right.
Bond's watch blasted the henchman's electronic eye, but no damage to his earpiece which was almost the same distance away? Okay.
Ana de Armas shined and I totally expected her to return later in the movie (to avenge Felix perhaps?) I also thought that that entire segment she was in looked more like Mr & Mrs Smith rather than 007 movie.
Rami Malek somehow looked much younger than Lea Seydoux even with his makeup, although he's supposed to be what, at least 10-15 years older than her, based on the flashback scene? (He's only 4 years older in real life).
Loved Blofeld in this film more than his role in Spectre somehow.
Couldn't help but think that Norway car chase looked like super expensive Toyota/Range Rover ad.
