I was at home sick this week and went down a youtube hole trying to understand, and cringe at new young rappers... much of this included watching a lot of No Jumper vlog. Something I noticed is that most of these rappers don't really perform their material live. Their DJ plays the album tracks and they just selectively yell or sing a long to their vocal tracks. It's like bad karaoke..... and most of them perform like this. The young audiences don't seem to mind. Am I old and out of touch? or is it the children who are wrong?

The Imperial is one of my all time favorite albums. I saw them live in like 97.
I'm REALLY surprised Lord Have and Busta patched things up, but I'm glad they did.

I have not been keeping up with the hip hop scene, but I am reviving this thread because the one about a certain song with a NIN sample seems to be getting a bit off topic.
I'm a little put off by a recent trend in mainstream hip hop. A trend dominated by young men with face tattoos, short dreadlocks/braids (bright colors optional), short songs with laughable lyrics that make Kanye sound like a scholar, beats that are almost trap, vocals that at times barely even sound like rapping, etc. Most of it can be classified as "mumble rap" with 6ix9ine and Lil Pump being notable examples or rappers in the trend (the former has been getting lots of media attention lately, to the point where I could no longer ignore his existence).
This post is not to bash modern hip hop, but to ask how to get past the crap that's dominating the mainstream. Where do you go to discover better hip hop that doesn't get as much commercial recognition? Preferably relatively new artists (from the mid-00s and later). Most of you appear to have dug beneath the surface quite a while ago, citing performers to counter claims that hip hop is as bad as the mainstream is making it appear.

Meek Mill is a popular mainstream rapper who has a traditional flow you would probably like. He trend hops with those flows you don't like with certain songs and those are generally cringey, but the lion's share of his work is solid rap with a traditional flow.

They were fucking awesome last night but Method Man was a no show for reasons unknown. So, that part was disappointing but if you get 8 out of 9/10 members of the Clan, its a good night. If you are going and want the limited city specific shirts in Large or XL, you should probably get there early as the Boston shirts sold out pretty quickly. They went on around 9:15ish. All of 36 Chambers and some of the usual solo stuff. ODB's son was a highlight (Brooklyn Zoo). Such a great night.

I saw Snoop Dogg and Ice-T last night (with a guest appearance of Warren G) and all I can say is if the Snoop Dogg & Friends tour is coming anywhere near you, GO. Easily one of the most fun shows I have ever gone to.
