The Slip Album Art

Does anyone happen to have super hi-res versions of the album art on the slip.
I'm looking to print 30x30 versions of a few of the album art on canvas to hang in my house, but need hi-res files to do this.

Any help would be appreciated.

why the slip artwork? Images from TDS seem most worth of a project such as that.

You could buy the 12" and scan the booklet pages - or take it apart.

the images within the PDF are JPEGS at size 1200x1200, is that not big enough to print? You can extract them without further loss from the PDF using a tool such as `pdfimages` from `poppler-utils`. Sample.

if you are doing these for artwork purposes your best results will be printing DIRECTLY from Adobe Acrobat (yes, the paid version). Acrobat has a feature called "Preflight" which is essential for these types of projects.



If you use Photoshop to open the PDF as images (in essence to extract them), PS does all of the calculations for you, etc. You end up with images that are 1200x1200 at 300 dpi. DPI makes almost no difference though when representing an image on a computer screen (if you don't believe me there's plenty of information out there). So, if you are printing these you will want to have them printed at 4 inches x 4 inches at 300 dpi (yes, the page is only 4 inches).

I went ahead and extracted pages 1-12 from The Slip PDF "correctly" though, in case you want them.

They'll look like crap. Basically, that pushes the images to 40dpi. I don't mean to be a spoiler here, but I'm not sure scanning the vinyl liner notes will even give you acceptable results. Best bet? Scale the images Jon provided to the size you need and then use the original images as a guideline for a from scratch reproduction in photoshop. Won't be easy, but the images are simple enough that it's feasible.

Yeah, don't do 30x30... these would need to be at least 700+ dpi to look halfway decent (with current dimensions).

The images for Ghosts I-IV are 13.125 inches x 7.75 inches at 100 dpi... still not very print worthy.

There's no doubt there are higher quality ("master") pdf's out there for these but we'll never see them as those are the artists'

Will these be in a hallway where people pass through? If so, they won't stay there for too long to catch all the details.

You can also adjust their size in Photoshop and then do minor things like sharpness in the areas where you think it might be needed. For something in your house that should be enough.

But I would suggest you do a test print with whatever you have best then ask yourself if you're going to hang them in a place where they'll be viewed up close or from 2-3 meters? Will these be in a hallway where people pass through? If so, they won't stay there for too long to catch all the details.

You can also adjust their size in Photoshop and then do minor things like sharpness in the areas where you think it might be needed. For something in your house that should be enough.

i am planning to use 3 of the images of the album, don't know which ones yet, but they will hanging right when you walk in the house in the living room area. it's a fairly large wall, so that is why i would need a 30x30 canvas.
and although i know a little photoshop and i do mean little, would taking the art from the vinyl to a canvas printing shop do the trick or are those prints that are included in the vinyl not sufficient.

A 1:1 photocopy of the vinyl notes onto high quality paper would be fine, IMHO.

you could probably pull it off by including more of the images and have them smaller than 30x30. you are shooting for the ideal with the three 30x30 prints but i'm thinking it won't be possible without either a large bill for reproductions (of the vinyl or whatever) or changing the plan.

all of them except the cover and the "Demon Seed" art follow very similar templates for background shades and so on, so you could put nine together at a smaller size to adorn the (apparently huge!) wall.

I used the 1024x1024 images to create a 3x3 titled poster 24"x24" at zazzle.com. Canvas prints are best at 150ppi. So each square is 6.827 inches and I gave them .5" black borders and a slightly larger outer border. Came out rather good (minus an issue that occurred leaving some faded spots, working to have it reprinted). The 1200x1200 images would give you 8". Wouldn't scale particularly well to 30" I'd imagine but may be fine at 12" or 16".
