You can definitely tell when Edsel is singing versus Wayne, but goddamn, Edsel's impression of Wayne's voice is pretty fucking spot on.
It was definitely way better than I thought it would be. Honestly I didn't notice Edsel at all, but I just kind of had it on in the background.

I dig them a lot. I checked them out pretty much after Jones joined KSE and they are def killer, but I can only take them in small doses.

Kidding. This is pretty cool. Dunno if I'm gonna pay $15 to watch any of the shows, but I applaud them for the idea. Hope it works out for them.
Pretty crazy what happened to Dallas a couple of years back in that ATV accident; I think he is still recovering.

Underoath came into my life around the time COT came Out. Really didn't enjoy the first album with Spencer, but they made up big time with what they created after that. Disambiguation has been on replay this past week.

band I discovered today...stupid hard. Street shit from Philly. Madball influence...and some No Warning the more I listen. Recorded and mixed at Will Putney's studio in Belleville NJ. Sounds great as such.

Pig Destroyer is good. When I went on a black, death and grind exploration in 2017 I found them.

Speaking of Death metal and grindcore, this was never posted.

I heard the new single “Backlash Just Because” on Sirius XM Liquid Metal a moment ago. Typical Napalm Death but it was a good track. Very similar to Apex Predator material, which is fine by me as I love that album.

Loving this more than any of their other catalog work. I think the verse > chorus >verse >chorus helps. I like their older material but this is next level to me.

    Album is out in October.

This dropped last year, but I'm just now getting hip to it. Really great depressive black metal / blackgaze record.

I'm honestly not trying to rustle anything here, but I feel like the formula is getting redundant, especially on the vocal end. The whole "BLAAARRRRRGGGG" screaming is tired to me.

I think what Deafheaven is doing is interesting, but I don't like the vocals. It makes me feel like laughing, like it's silly.
It doesn't feel like he's particularly upset about anything, it's just constant BLAAAAAAAAAAAA..... GeBLATsiLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEENX"

It was entertaining at first but I don't see this really playing out. His live dramatic lead singer posturing isn't my thing either... but it's working for them and who am I to say anything and maybe I should just shut the fuck up and let them succeed at whatever this formula is.

Feel like you could say any particular genre's vocals are formulaic.

True, and for me anyways it's always that the vocals need to match the music or it sounds out of place. If you have some abrasive, aggressive stuff...some nice clean vocals over it would be off-putting (why I can't stand a lot of the clean vocal 'metalcore' stuff personally), and vice versa. That's a factor of the appeal of Deafheaven for me. They do enough of bucking that trend to still make it work and that's appealing to me lol. To each their own, so on and so forth.

Clean vocals are great in metal(core) as long as they're not overdone or fit with the overall style. The bands that use harsh vocals everywhere but the chorus on every track are mostly insufferable.

Most metal vocals are silly. It's okay for it to be fun and goofy and still resonate. That's kind of the appeal (at least for me). I don't start watching a horror movie expecting some pivotal revelation of existence. It's escapism. Choose your own adventure. Let it be whatever you want it to be.

Metal and heavy will always have a special place in my heart, but after about 5 songs I get overly tired of it now. Funny how these things change as we get older for some.

In the meantime, I've been on a 36 Crazyfists kick this past week. Brocks vocals have always hit me a certain way along with the guitar work from Steve Holt. I met them back at Mayhem Festival and they killed the set along with being really nice guys. Plus, their album art is always pretty awesome.

This. Personally I much prefer no clean singing in my metal. There are, of course, many exceptions. If you don't listen to a certain style of music then it is more likely that you think it sounds weird or bad or samey... not just the vocals. I think pop singing and lyrics are for more silly than most metal, but again, this is likely due to the fact that I don't listen to much pop and the subject matter doesn't interest me.

I also think it is nearly impossible to classify anything as just "metal." The variations in vocal delivery between metal sub genres is crazy... Michael Stanne sounds nothing like Travis Ryan who sounds nothing like Tom Araya who sounds nothing like Karl Buechner who sounds nothing like ICS Vortex.. etc. In those examples I really do not mean the sound of their voice. It is really how they sing which has such an impact on the sound.

It always makes me crazy when people think something all sounds the same just because they aren't used to it ("a bunch of noise"). All country sounds the same to me, but it isn't because it actually does. It is just because I haven't taken the time to really listen to it.

Every now and then I think back about how I saw Hypocrisy, Dark Tranquility, and Soilwork all on the same tour and how fucking good that show was.

This sucks. Entombed AD vocalist L-G Petrov diagnosed with incurable bile duct cancer.

Not to be a downer, but my wife's friend was diagnosed with this last Sept, and passed away about a month ago. This shit moves quickly.
