Has anyone tried to transcribe the lyrics yet?
Aside from a track here or there the last three albums haven't been that memorable, I'm sure this one will be more of the same based off of "Limerent Death," so I'm glad they're walking away instead of releasing several more average albums. I'm glad I got to see them back when Chris and Brian were still in the band, it's always been a shame to me that they peaked so early.
I wasn't keen on Ire Works, but like With Teeth I learned to enjoy it in retrospect. You didn't like Option Paralysis? I thought that was their return to form. With the exception of Chinese Whispers that record is gold. It was a perfect blend of the old Dillinger riff tornado and pop experimentation. I Would If You Didn't is insanity. That tune makes me want to fuck my toaster, and when that Guns n Roses style piano breakdown is bellissimo. Or when Widower ramps up!
How weird. Ire Works is my favorite album. I love the style they went for the on the album as well as the visual style for the album artwork and song production. Dead as History is fantastic.
I loved Option Paralysis. I also vouch for I Wouldn't If You Didn't, it's my favorite track besides Farewell, Mona Lisa and Endless Endings.
One of Us is the Killer is non-filler free. I crank every song.
Miss Machine is a classic to me. There's some I listen to more than other but I like every track.
I also dig the Plagiarism EP, even though its covers. Their Justin Timberlake cover (Like I Love You) and Wish are super good. Angel and Jesus Christ Pose are the show stoppers on the EP though.
I also bought the new single on iTunes. Sounds wonderful. I can't wait to listen to it on my way to work on my car stereo SUPER loud tomorrow.
Going to the show at Great Scott in Boston tonight. That venue is TINY. Capacity is 240. Can't wait!
Posted this in the Dillinger Compound on Facebook, but had no inquiries. I've got an extra ticket for the show DC9 on Tuesday. If you'd like it, it's yours at face price ($20 + fees) Hit me with a message if you're interested.
Meh, Option Paralysis initially impressed me but has no lasting power, there's several moments that feel like rehash, just like One Of Us Is The Killer. Miss Machine was the last album that felt like they were really trying to do new things and push their sound as a band, going full pop and becoming a chaotic version of any other metal band with singing isn't pushing the limit. In hindsight Chris Pennie knew the right time to quit the band, cause they had already peaked. Calculating is their Downward Spiral and Miss Machine is their Fragile, Irony is a Dead Scene is this quirky awesome EP in between, after Miss Machine it's all expected. I'll give the new album a chance, I own the rest of them so why not, but my expectations are massively low, Happiness Is A Smile blows and Limerent Death isn't exactly remarkable in any way. At one point I thought Greg was exactly what this band needed to move forward, in hindsight he may have been the beginning of the end. That said, I'll take another Error release whenever.
damn dude. you're a tough critic.
They went from being one of my favorite bands (I still remember following every little rumor leading into Miss Machine for years and then finally listening to the new track on the Peel Sessions, where my username came from, ad nauseum) but even as early as Ire Works it seems like they just got too into themselves and started becoming a copycat of themselves. From Ire Works on it just got worse and worse. Honestly I don't think they'll be gone that long, Ben seems ways too full of himself at this point to really let Dillinger go.
A Dissociation review. Apparently better than Ire Works! http://www.themusicalmeltingpot.com/...iation-review/
I got chills reading his descriptions for the last 2 songs. I can't fucking wait to hear this album
I disagree 100%. I feel like they've been getting better and better with each album pretty much. You said they've gone "full pop", have you even listened to one of those albums in full recently? Even their few softer songs couldn't be considered "full-pop" in any sense of the word. Like 90% of every album is just as heavy if not heavier than their early shit. And i don't see how Ben seems full of himself at all lol, where did you get that from?
I think you mean more and more expected. Single-esque rock track a la "setting fire to sleeping giants?" Check. Poppy song a la "retrofied?" Check. Hard-hitting opener? Check. Super crazy blast beat songs with re-used kinda heard this before parts? Check. I just tried listening to "One Of Us Is The Killer" and "Option Paralysis" a few weeks ago and just can't get through them anymore, they are boring for the most part. "Calculating" is as fresh and ferocious as ever, "Irony" is still funky weird and awesome and "Miss Machine" still holds up as a good intro to Greg and experimentation with melody and slower tempos, after that it's still a total crapshoot. The album review up above has me pretty sure this will be the first Dillinger album I don't buy, I already wasted money on the last two.
I guess they're just not for you. Oh well

I can't believe they're actually coming to Vermont! I usually have to travel to MA for shows as no one ever comes to Vermont, and was disappointed to see that the Boston date is on a Wednesday. Then I noticed the next day!
talk about diverse openers. Pretty cool. O'Brother's mgmt are incredible at consistently getting that entirely zzzzz band on solid tours.
I'm so fucking excited. I'm finally seeing one of my favorite bands of all time on November 1st.
The legacy is alive and well but I wish they would opt for a more dry and less roomy drum sound. Currently I'm getting some Bob Rock Dr Feelgood vibes.
Got my ticket for the Vermont show! It's so rare that anyone worth seeing comes here.
Right on Greg!
Hey guys, one question: I really want to see the DEP before they quit and the show closest to me is in San Antonio. However, that show is on a Thursday, it's a 6 hr drive from where I live and I'm a Uni teacher and I have two classes to teach that day...here's their official statement re: end of touring
If you guys were betting people...would you bet on Dillinger coming back to Texas next year? Would you think they would do a final mini-US tour (I could maybe fly to a cool place for a show and make it a mini-vacation, although I'm not precisely swimming in money at the moment, trying to start my own brewery as well and that drains a lot of money from my bank account)? Or should I start looking for a substitute teacher for the San Antonio date?So when exactly is Dillinger going to stop performing? We are going to do the cycle for this album and that's it. But there are a lot of things that go into this cycle. We have a full US tour that we'll be doing in the fall and then we'll be doing a massive tour in Europe in the winter, and that will probably take us towards playing other areas like Australia or wherever we have to hit. Then I'm sure we'll come back around and hit summer festivals and figure out what our very last shows will be around that time.

They will 100% do shows & put out music again, but not for a few years at least. I doubt very much they would do anything next year...too much integrity to go back on their word.
I don't know, man, this made it seem like the breakup is final: https://www.facebook.com/metalhammer...PAGES_TIMELINE
I think they've said they're gonna be touring for the next 2 years at least
Am I alone saying I love this shit? Had it on repeat at work yesterday.
I changed my Xbox Live gamertag from my username on here to Limerent Death
Haha. Oh God.
i don't doubt their sincerity...right now. But when all their newer projects fall into obscurity, and 5-10 years pass from that final DEP show next year, the headliner-level requests from various festivals will just grow and grow. Make no mistake about it. Whatever metal or metal-tinged festivals or package tours exist at that time will easily book DEP as a mainstage headliner. And eventually, the allure of the spotlight, nostalgia, missed camaraderie & hefty payouts will bring them back together, i guarantee it.
