Nothing More's cover of WITT. There's a live version on Youtube I remember seeing a while ago.
So, for the people comparing Coldplay and NIN : here's great example of a very potentially Coldplay-ish song originally far removed from Coldplay territory, and how covering it improperly throws it straight back into Coldplay territory.
That's the song you don't want to cover. It avoids being stupidly triumphant by a nano margin, the tuning of the instruments is amazingly precise on that one, the strained voice of Reznor plays a lot too. Play it clearly, you end up with a shitty radiorock love song.
To be honest, I think the song works even better when performed live. The fact that the whole song had to be brought down pitch wise so Trent could sing it kind of helped bring back a level of despair to the whole thing.
Even then, the original is a triumphant love song on paper, it's energetic, driven, except everything is juuust slightly off. The rhythm is broken and the guitars are under a constant glass ceiling. It's all slightly detuned. When I first heard it I was amazed at how precise it all was, everything's calculated to make it a failed rock anthem.
I think he aimed at the same thing with Everything, but to me he missed the mark a bit on that one, it's still too straightforward to really work.
But I think that's the song you can't really cover. Either you mimic Reznor precisely (and what's the point then), either you fuck it up. Your only real option is to reinvent it from scratch.
I went to see Russell Mills exhibition "Cargo in the blood" today.

Was just casually listening to a Savage Garden playlist on youtube when all of a sudden, surprise Head Like a Hole cover thrown in for good measure! (around the 3:15 mark)
Not the greatest quality but I was so surprised! Definitely wouldn't associate Darren Hayes with NIN at all, so I was pretty shocked.
Wow, Savage Garden, that's name I haven't heard in years! Oddly enough, I ended up listening to that video a couple times.
Wow, it'd be great for just a hint of what House of Reznor is cooking up nowadays.
John Carpenter's Most Horrifying Musical Moments
"Love Siege," Ghosts of Mars
Despite the fact that Ice Cube is one of the top-billed stars in the Ghosts of Mars cast, the soundtrack didn't tap the rapper for a few lines, but instead favored some insane metal shredding courtesy of Steve Vai, Buckethead, former Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finck, and Anthrax. "Love Siege" involves nearly all of the names listed above, with Carpenter leading the heavy charge.

^^^Has the guy heard Trent speak though? (and I mean then) - he doesn't sound anything like him
it's true, this board has a lot to teach a five season 60 episode sketch comedy show about comedy
In Flames' singer mentions Trent (among others) as an inspiration:

Songfacts: Who are your favorite songwriters and also singers?
Anders: Trent Reznor is a big inspiration for me. I would love to sit in the studio with him, pick his brain, or just be a fly on the wall, seeing how Nine Inch Nails' productions go down, or any of his productions, really. I think Martin Gore from Depeche Mode is an amazing songwriter. Layne [Staley] from Alice in Chains, he was a big inspiration for me in the beginning. I thought his lyrics were very dark, but yet very beautiful and sad, I mean, if you can put those two words together. He described this black, black hole with enormous passion.

Not sure if this counts but apparently With Teeth is metal now.
I've always thought it's also because they just have Broken and The Downward Spiral in mind too. But regardless, I always thought that was cool and nice to see. I'm sure I've seen Nine Inch Nails mentioned a few times on other metal sites as well.
Above the guy with the blue shirt and glasses, slightly to the right of center.
Stumbled across this today. With Teeth cover featured.
The Blu-ray of The Gambler has a feature called "Mr. Self-Destruct" about Marky Mark's character.
Isn't this the same terrible post from a year or so ago?
Might not be a NIN spotting because TRstoleborrowed that title from Soft Cell
