Meeting Famous Musicians and Other Celebs

Okay, i know this is kind of on the tmz side, and we're supposed to be too hip to care, but i LIKE these kinds of stories!
So whether you stalked the person or ran into them randomly, please do share!

    I've got a few.
    Here's a good one.
I don't know if he still does this, but Tricky used to spend A LOT of time mingling with the audience before his shows.
I was at a tricky show in dallas...must have been like 17, right?
So i'm just chilling in the bar waiting for the opening act to come on, and i see Tricky just a few feet away from me.

Remember, i'm seventeen so i'm TRIPPED the fuck out! i was a HUGE tricky fan. I still am, but in those days, Pre-Millenium Tension and Nearly God were new...i was VERY excited about tricky!
So i said to him "Wow, tricky, i can't believe these people don't recognize you!"
And he said "I try to keep a low pro."
And holy shit. His voice in real life was JUST like his voice on the record. I thought for sure that his recorded snarl was an effect, but that's really how the motherfucker talks. 17 year old me couldn't believe it.

SO i managed to tell him what a great influence he had on my poetry and that i followed his DIY spirit...making music on a 4 track in your living room, shit like that.

And he says "Thanks. Got a light?"

And i look and it's a big spliff! I was lighting one of my here's JOINTS!
I have a feeling he knew exactly how unforgettable that would be for me. I bet he had a lighter already.

Of course i was about to piss my pants, and my hands were shaking so badly that i could barely use my lighter. Plus, i was supposed to SMOKE the joint, but i was far too nervous. Still, it was well worth it

So, lay one of your stories on me!

    Bono once called me "darling".

Oh, and some Italian multi-instrumentalist that likes cats.

Interesting, since every story I've heard about him over here is that he's a bit of a diva.

    Apparently, I side-eyed Paloma Faith.

Went to Amoeba Music one day and saw Lemmy from Motörhead. I went up to him and said "Thanks for the music" and his reply? "Thanks for buying."

    Heh. I'll bite.

I've met Leonard Nimoy (total dick), William Shatner (nice), Dave Grohl (SUPER nice) and Billy Mumy (also super nice, but I'm sure barely anyone remembers who he is.
    Ha.)

Edit Oh! And Sully from Godsmack (I don't like Godsmack but I did at the time. I was in high school, give me a break).

I've met both Shane Carruth and Ondi Timoner at the Atlanta Film Festival in 2004 and a year later, Jesse Bradford at a screening for his film Happy Endings. I've also met Bradford Cox at my old record store that I hung out near my house. They were all cool.

I've partied with Jeff Tuttle (ex Dillinger Escape Plan) before. Cool guy. His wife is super nice too.

I had a 20 minute conversation about Merzbow with Chris Connely at Reckless Record in chicago a few years back.

Hung out a bunch with Tesco Vee (Meatmen, Tesco Vee's Hate Police) and John Brannon (Negative Approach, Easy Action, and Laughing Heyenas)

Rhyno (ex WWE and ECW) is a cool guy, and gets his car fixed where I work.

Met the band briefly when they were doing an autograph session during the Wave Goodbye Tour. JMJ was a really nice dude. He seemed more excited to interact with the fans than we were. Got a few words in with Trent. Asked him if he had anymore plans for Year Zero. I *think* I remember him saying he wanted to do a follow up album to it, though I could be wrong. Mainly what I remember was him saying he wanted to get the TV show done, though as we know, that project appears to be in limbo if not dead already.

Didn't meet him, but I did see Obama up close back at the White Sox World Series victory parade in 2005. This was of course before he was President.

That's all I've got really as far as up close sightings go. I do have a handful of tweets from Grimes and Carina Round.

Speaking of presidents, I've literally walked into the current Irish president about 3 times. He was a professor at my uni back in the day.

I was in Amoeba Music in Hollywood walking down the stairs when I saw Zach de la Rocha walking up the stairs. We made eye contact but I didn't say anything. I usually don't get "fannish" around famous folk(who you come across in LA every once in awhile), but he's one one my music heros from way back when so I must've got a bit nervous. I don't know what I would say to him, anyway. He looked at an MC5 live dvd on the rack.

George Clinton tucked me and my little brother into bed when we were little. I don't remember this; my mother told us. Her friend was dating him, and my mom had a big party.

I delivered a printing job to a hotel and ran into Wayne Newton at the desk. I then realized that the stretch limo my car was in front of must be his. I left and Wayne was right behind me, trailed by a bunch of groupies. Wayne asked me if he could ride with me. I was driving a Ford Escort. Very funny, Wayne. He's about 7 feet tall.

A month or so ago J.K Rowling was spotted in my schools dining hall and a few classmates got pictures with her, turns out her horse was sick and being treated by the university animal hospital. She came by three times a week for a couple weeks until her horse was better. I never perused a photo with her because honestly I'm not the biggest Harry Potter fan.

Other than that I have had the privilege to care for a couple other celebrity pets, I gave dental cleanings to these two surprisingly well behaved pups last year. Kris Humphries mother brought them in for all their appointments, she is also super nice and hates Kim K. We had to ask...

I also used to dog/horse sit for a FABULOUS interior decorator who may be getting his own tv show on the style channel soon

Chris Kattan almost ran into my car because he doesn't know how one-way lanes work in parking lots.

    I'LL NEVER FORGET, KATTAN.

I grew up watching the reruns because my dad loved them as a kid so he introduced me to them. We went to this celebrity horse show charity thing that William Shatner did every year (or still does, maybe, I don't know). Anyway, my uncle apparently knew someone who knew someone and my dad, brother and I all got to go "backstage" and that's where I met everyone. Billy Mumy was really nice. I remember he ended up talking to my dad for quite awhile. I have his autograph floating around somewhere.

    Interesting thread lol.

    - Drank beer and talked all things Batman at the Commodore downtown Vancouver with Ryan Adams.
    - Hung out with Tricky before both of his most recent Vancouver shows.
    - Hung out with everyone in Slipknot after their set, 1999 in Calgary instead of watching Coal Chamber lol (Slipknot was opening). Was VIP at their show here at the PNE Forum so got to hang out with them again before their set.
    - Drank with Dani from Cradle of Filth. He must've hit the bong like a maniac because he was high as shit, very polite though.
    - Met Dez Fafara after a DevilDriver show in Calgary (pretty good live)...pompous but polite.
    - Met Dino and Burton from Fear Factory at HMV downtown before 1999 Ozzfest here in Vancouver. Burton, very cool. Dino, what a prick.
    - Met Harrison Ford walking downtown Vancouver while he was here shooting 'Firewall'. One of the nicest dudes around.
    - Met Samuel L Jackson downtown at a pub. Polite but kind of an ass.
    - Met the cast of Fringe while they were filming. All very, very awesome. Anna Torv...uuunnnnggghh.
    - Met Giancarlo Esposito from Breaking Bad, super awesome dude.
    - Met Bruce Campbell and Tom Savini, nice guys.
    - Shook Tom Waits' hand.

EDIT: Also, may or may not have had a tour end party with Sigur Ros that ended up in their hotel room and my friend Connor having to tuck Jonsi in after he threw up for about 10 minutes straight.

I've met that one too. Actually, it was so noisy where we met that I literally had to speak right next to his ear to be heard. Very nice guy, polite and friendly despite having had a horrendous day.

My friend, we're talking about Samuel L Motherfucking Jackson here. Of course he's going to be kind of an ass. Especially if you think he's Laurence Fishburne! :P

Also: when I was a baby (7-8 months old) I'm told that a very famous Québécois singer (at the time) talked to me and wanted to pick me up from my mother's arms (I was a very cute baby). I screamed like he was the Devil.

I served Judy Dench and Maggie Smith coffee in a restaurant in the North of Scotland, around 15 years ago.

Judy Dench asked me where the toilet was.

Also, Princess Diana's mother is a bit of a cunt.

Bumped into James Dean Bradfield from the Manics randomly on a train, in the dining car queue. He said 'hi' to me, I did the biggest double take ever, then spent five minutes twisting myself into knots deciding what to say to him. I ended up just bottling it and letting him go in front of me, I thought, you made one of my most favourite albums ever, you can get your coffee before me, it's the least I can do.

A friend and I bumped into James Iha and Melissa Auf der Maur in Germany (at Checkpoint Charlie, believe it or not) on the "last" Smashing Pumpkins tour in 2000. We chatted with Melissa because we were Canadian, had a good laugh, and she put us on the guest list for the Berlin show. Sweaty German crowd, was awesome.

I've been drunk on more than a few occasions with Marty Bulloch, drummer of Mogwai.

I've been hiking (and drunk, though not at the same time) with Nate Query, bassist of The Decemberists.

I stood in a queue behind Pete Townsend once at an airport in France. Only time I've ever been intimidated. I left him alone.

For the old Canadians: when I was very young I met Mr. Dressup.
