Hell, I just want to get it for the Nolan/Donner talk and Michael Mann discussing the films.

Hmm. I'd been holding off picking up the trilogy because of the super awesome edition mooted for this year, but that's an underwhelming package (ho!). No alternative cuts? No commentaries? No deleted scenes? The new docs look interesting, but not worth paying that much for.

I know Nolan doesn't tend to go for any of the aforementioned, but if he was ever going to make an exception...

Wow...absolute piece of shit "ultimate trilogy"

IMAX sequences? The scenes are already in the IMAX aspect ratio in the films. Some toy cars and cards.
2 I repeat TWO...real new bonus features. FUCK THAT.

According to some on superhero hype, the IMAX was reduced to 1:78 for the blu rays.

What I wanted them to do was pit the original coloring of the dark Knight on this.

Guys, this is Warner Bros we're talking about here. There'll be at least another 5 or so trilogy releases within our lifetime. This is just the first of many more underwhelming sets.

I am compiling a 1 disc greatest hits record of Zimmer's score from the Trilogy. Looking to capture the full scope of the journey. while still including the best pieces (thus meaning it will likely need to be TDK heavy). Anyone have any recommendations of pieces that must be included? Some of the suites are long 7-15 minute range so you really have to be selective.

    Tentatively I have the following;

    Why So Serious? - TDK
    I'm Not a Hero - TDK
    Antrozous - BB
    Aggressive Expansion - TDK
    Molossus - BB
And I Thought My Jokes Were Bad - TDK
Like a Dog Chasing Cars - TDK
    You Complete Me - TDK
A Fire Will Rise - TDKR
    Gotham's Reckoning - TDKR
    Risen From Darkness - TDKR
    Imagine the Fire - TDKR
    Rise - TDKR
    End Credits - BB

Anything missing that needs to be included? Anything redundant? Any feedback would be appreciated.

The single piece of music I think I've listened to most from Hans' 3 Batman scores is the bonus track "The End" which is a variation on "Rise" if I remember it correctly. Even though it doesn't appear in any movie, it's still essential listening if you ask me - just a really beautiful track. Also, I love the theme that first appears on "On Thin Ice." Also worth mentioning "Gotham's Reckoning" because of the chanting/Bane's theme.

edit: just noticed you included "Gotham's Reckoning" already!

The End bonus track rules. I remembering hearing it around the time the movie came out. I believe I posted it here before. Great listen.

ok i'm waaaaaaay late to the party on this,
but why in the holy hell is this movie full of right wing propaganda?
bane is pretty much the good guy except for the bomb part.
i didn't know batman voted republican and really prefer my movies without the dose of propaganda.
i thought it was just me, but the mrs caught it too...we were both kinda perplexed and then finally agreed to stop talking about all of it and just watch.

The very idea of Batman is a right wing, Fascist idea. Go read The Dark Knight Returns, you'll see what I mean.

trying to read a coherent political message into this movie is total gibberish, but maybe that's a critique of right wing political thought in itself? (*JUST KIDDING, THIS MOVIE DOESNT MAKE SENSE)

the "batman as sympathetic fascist" was actually done really, really well in the Dark Knight. that movie was excellent right-wing propaganda, and I'm fine with that

I actually really like this movie, especially as far as super hero flicks go. But it is transparently the Neo-Conservative superhero trilogy. I wouldnt say that its difficult to read in to at all. Its crystal clear.

I don't think Nolan has made a bad movie. I don't understand the backlash on him. I am pretty sure I've mentioned this and gone into detail too, if I didn't, then here goes:

--Even if you hated TDKR, that's like one movie out of 8? And you still hate him, internet? Okay...

--if you hated Man Of Steel like I did, awesome. Here's the thing about Nolan's involvement--his contributions were reportedly via phone call, email and monetary. You can easily find interviews proving that and also one where those hacks David S Goyer and Zack Snyder (who at this point I think got lucky when he did Watchmen) talk about that movie being theirs and how they pretty much disagreed with Nolan's suggestions.

Interstellar looks rad so far but I hope he doesn't go too Speilberg on it (cloying, sappy).

Still to this day the only thing I hated about this film is Catwoman's uninvited part in the whole film and the mediocre performance by Anne Hathaway.

    How unsurprisingly contrarian.

    C'monnnnn.

It's fucking rich-guy law-and-order BATMAN set-up against poor-li'l down-and-out CATWOMAN in a lethal game to almost LITERALLY lure him into a birdcage trap for her to betray him to the class-warfare muscle and mind of Bane and Talia from the anarchistic/fascistic League of Shadows.

That's like practically the VERY BEST WAY to POSSIBLY introduce Hathaway's EXCELLENTLY portrayed ideological femme-fatale and cold-blooded manipulator-with-a-heart-of-gold.

(Considering her redemptive turn at any rate, that is.)

And GODDAMNIT, Anne Hathaway flexing her ass out astride the BatPod in skintight pleather is ALL YOU NEED to FULLY enjoy her turn in the role anyway, ffs!!!

    :P

Never really got the ZOMFG-RIGHT-WING perspective all that much, either. And, YES, I read the Wall Street Journal's articles about all that.

Yeah, Batman wiretapped for the greater good.

But he ALSO arranged those executive powers to expire within the checks-and-balances of Freeman's Lucious Fox, whom he trusted implicitly in his integrity to shut them down as SOON as they became unethical...yet almost a DECADE LATER the PATRIOT ACT stands practically 100% unimpeded.

And Batman's pushing for harmless green energy at the cost of his OWN corporation's financial interests!

    Phffft.

    Riiiiiiiiight.

Not to mention his deliberate and absolute stonewalling of the military-industrial complex. Over and over again.

Sure, he may spy or even physically torture when the situation calls for it, but he's willing and EAGER and even PLEASED to set those powers aside when they're rendered unnecessary once the job is done.

Almost THIRTEEN YEARS after 9/11 and neither republican nor democrat presidents have been willing to relinquish similar capabilities.

I think it's pretty clear that Nolan's Batman is NOT a right-wing cipher.

    Or LEFT-wing, for that matter.

He's his OWN wing of government.

    He's the goddamned BATWING, ffs.

don't get me wrong...i thought the movie was fucking GREAT. @Hazekiah , i too enjoyed anne's... ahem, performance on the bat cycle .
I love that picture you posted. I fucking ADORED those tim burton movies...Nolan's batwing should have been bat shaped so they could have done the same thing.

But man, if you didn't catch the politics, you must be good at blocking them out. Bane LITERALLY attacks wall street.
He talks incessantly about the corrupt rich folk and mounts a revolution to return power to the people.

I also caught a little batman as jesus imagery as well...remember the way they are dragging him to that prison?
He hangs on that rope thing to fix his back like christ on the cross and then "rises" again...from the underworld no less...many christians think that christ was in hell while he was dead. I don't know where they get this, but it is a common belief.

I love symbolism and maybe i overreach sometimes, but i REALLY think that the undertone of this movie was batman as right wing jesus.

I dont want to rehash this entore old argument again, but a lot of people miss this key plot point:

Bane does not care about the rich v poor/Occupy wall street thing. Its a false flag operation and sitraction from his true motives. Easy to miss, because the movies does spend a lot of time with that imagery and those themes.

Still the notion is that occupy was this puppet movement and that really the best thing for us is to put our laws and safety into the hands of our most successful private citizens, since publicly funded programs have all failed in some way.

but @Wretchedest , it is an extremely fleshed out and eloquently delivered false flag.
the part where bane's true motives come in is an afterthought. he was the bad guy way before we knew he intended to light off the bomb.

so for me, the duality, the dichotomy, of bane's philosophy vs republican jesus batman is still VERY present.

edit: and i'm sorry for bringing up this "old argument." i was late to the party...i just watched it.
and my wife and i, a pair of bleeding heart pinko commie liberals, had to pick our jaws up off of the floor as we started to catch the messages.
as in, "honey, is this REALLY an allegory about the dangers of left wing politics?" (me)
"yeah i'm afraid so...let's just tune that part out, it's batman for fuck's sake."

it was nowhere near as bad as Ayn Randian Tea Party Robin Hood from a few years ago, but it was damn sure palpable to us.

I finally watched it yesterday. I am not the greatest Nolan fan, so I was in no hurry... I thought it was an ok movie. I know it has received a fair share of hate from some, I am now scanning the web to know why. Yeah, a couple of things make no sense. Nolan likes his movies to be 'serious', which pushes them into an uncanny valley. He tried to portray the whole city, how the factions move, how 'we all are in it together', so to say, but it doesn't quite work (like the policemen sitting months underground and then happily running towards machineguns... or 12 million people simply shutting the doors or something while the city is cut off and there's a madman with a nuclear bomb...). But I really enjoyed the movie in the middle, once it became clear how the different parts all belonged together. I would have said it was a really good movie, but then it went on and was about 45 minutes too long. Some terrorism porn, shades of Matrix revolutions, the twist one could see from a mile away. But the final five minutes were really good again. A bit corny, but I liked it. I think Nolan wanted to imagine how a Bolshevik revolution would play out today. In general I think though that Nolan's interpretation of the Batman stories was slightly misguided. Like in the James Bond movie, Die Another Day, at one point, satellites are destroying the North/South Korean border and I wonder to myself, wait, is this still a Bond movie? That's how I sometimes felt while watching this.
