    Guilty Pleasures

Someone mentioned that a guilty pleasure's thread should be made, so here you go.
Real guilty pleasure's (Stuff I genuinely like that I shouldn't):
Shaggy - It Wasn't Me (admit it, you love it too, even if you can't decipher what he is saying)

5ive - Keep On Movin' (for the UK people, I have too much nostalgia for this song)

Take That - Shine (See 5ive)

Men Without Hats - The Safety Dance (If you don't safety dance to this you are a better man than I)

Men At Work - Down Under (Its just catchy OK)

Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) (80's+Androgyny+New Wave= Guilty Pleasure)

    So Bad Its Good:
Limp Bizkit - Break Stuff (They are the Battlefield Earth of music)

Emmure - Children Of Cybertron (They are The Room of Music)

i don't really believe in guilty pleasures... i feel like you shouldn't be ashamed of what you enjoy. that said, there are quite a few things that i love that are pretty unhip to enjoy considering my general taste in obscure post-punk/shoegaze/etc.

    lana del rey
tori amos (mostly up to and including choirgirl, though the new record is surprisingly great)
    mechanical animals
    the outfield- your love
the carpenters (yesterday once more KILLS me)
    tom petty & the heartbreakers
    the first two oasis records
the cranberries (especially the first record, which is perfect)
asia- the heat of the moment
sponge- plowed/cracker- low/local h- bound to the floor
alan parson's project- eye in the sky
    toto- africa/it's a feeling
italo disco (not unhip in my circle really, but it's really, really cheesy a lot of the time)
u2 (up to and including pop, but especially the 80s run. they get a lot of unnecessary shit for being such a solid band for a while there)
hole- live through this and related tracks only
freestyle (debbie deb, noel, the cover girls, shannon, pretty poison and all that other miami-tinged synthpop)
    PUMP UP THE JAM (technotronic)

...and apparently it's not cool to like bruce springsteen either, but darkness on the edge of town & nebraska rank pretty highly.

Not cool? The Boss rules. He's shouldn't be considered a guilty pleasure IMO.

    On my guilty pleasure list:
    Poison
    Warrant
    RATT
    LA Guns
    other cock-rock bands

I don't listen to that type of music too much anymore, usually when I go jogging. Gets ya pumped.

False. Having shame is a good thing. It's what keeps society from turning into a scene from Idiocracy.

errr, what? it's not a true or false scenario here. 'it's just like, my opinion, man,' that maybe it's not really worth getting too uptight about liking a song that's little more than surface level. most music is a work of art. some is pure, shameless entertainment. speaking of entertainment, comparing one's taste in music pop to a film about breeding out intelligence is a pretty flimsy metaphor.

back on track, i kinda like ratt and l.a. guns too (at least on a casual level), but that's the wife's taste in road trip music rubbing off on me...

I think it depends on what it applies to. I don't think art is one of them.

I liked Evanescence for awhile when they were hot. It was definitely the closest thing to a guilty pleasure I had, but now it's all a bit dated to me. There are moments on the last Anathema record where I thought, "this is like Evanescence, but literally 1 million times better".

I honestly dislike most of Springsteen's body of work but I can agree. He's got a lasting appeal and is really talented. Not my cup of tea though.

I also talk shit and dislike most of U2's shit but I'd be lying if if I didn't say I loved Achtung Baby and Zooropa.

Exactly! You can say either one aren't your cup of tea, but to say both should be a guilty pleasure? Those people can go fuck off in Pitchforkland

Gaga is one of mine too. One way I could tell if a random drunken stranger and I would get along is if they could Karaoke to Bad Romance with me.
I never got into MJ except Off the Wall.

I would never judge anyone for anything they enjoy, no matter what. I've got a discography that spans from Phil Collins to House of Pain.

But I am entirely confused as to what that song has to do with Transformers, if anything.

On that topic: FUCK YEAH MOTIVATIONAL 80'S SYNTHROCK

I wouldn't say it's necessarily a guilty pleasure because I tend to not really get embarrassed by what I listen to, but I guess you could count my infinite love for the Self Titled Paramore album a guilty pleasure. As a straight up Pop album, dude it's fuckin' flawless.

It isn't, its about their fanbase apparently. They call themselves Decepticons for some reason (Their frontman is a huge Transformers and Street Fighter fanboy, he's written songs about them both).
I recommend reading this, it is hilarious and it will put a smile on your face. http://www.metalsucks.net/2011/02/18...-emmure-album/

@icecream , i'm 34 and many people my age thought that MJ was Jesus when we were kids.
Check out Bad...it's fucking awesome after all these years. So is Dangerous and Thriller and, shit, all of them.

Check this track out. I swear to god a nin collab was inevitable.

Chicago. I've been trying to get someone to go with me to one of their concerts forever, and they all just laugh at me, even my step-mom. I give up and will just go by myself when they play nearby in Oct. I don't know what it is about their music, brings back some childhood memories.

I'm 40 and Thriller was one of the first records I owned. I remember begging my mom to let me stay up late to watch the video premier.

It's impossible not to smile and sing along when I hear this.

GTA V gave me a new appreciation for these.

Chalk these down to extreme childhood nostalgia

Don't know if this is still considered cool or not, but I love it

Most of the songs mentioned here I wouldn't consider guilty pleasures at all. Just because something is successful, like Madonna or Bruce Springsteen, doesn't make it a guilty pleasure. I think there needs to be a separation: Michael Jackson is not a guilty pleasure, La Toya Jackson is.

    Anyway...
I think Justin Timberlake's My Love is a perfect pop song.
Britney Spears' 'Blackout' album is obviously great. Just like Womanizer and Work Bitch. The album tracks aren't quite as good though.
    ABBA is great.
(Though I guess only Britney Spears is the real guilty pleasure here.)

I like all of Robbie William's albums except Rudebox, Intensive Care and Take The Crown. The music in Rudebox is great but the lyrics are just awful

oh yeah @ambergris ... i'll throw timberlake in there too and ANYTHING else timbaland touches back to missy.

but i don't feel guilty about the timbaland part...he is definitely one of the greatest producers of our time.

Oh this one caught me off guard...Kanye's Yeezus is fucking AMAZING...that one feels a little guilty.
