i don't really believe in guilty pleasures... i feel like you shouldn't be ashamed of what you enjoy. that said, there are quite a few things that i love that are pretty unhip to enjoy considering my general taste in obscure post-punk/shoegaze/etc.

tori amos (mostly up to and including choirgirl, though the new record is surprisingly great)

the carpenters (yesterday once more KILLS me)

the first two oasis records
the cranberries (especially the first record, which is perfect)
asia- the heat of the moment
sponge- plowed/cracker- low/local h- bound to the floor
alan parson's project- eye in the sky
toto- africa/it's a feeling
italo disco (not unhip in my circle really, but it's really, really cheesy a lot of the time)
u2 (up to and including pop, but especially the 80s run. they get a lot of unnecessary shit for being such a solid band for a while there)

freestyle (debbie deb, noel, the cover girls, shannon, pretty poison and all that other miami-tinged synthpop)

errr, what? it's not a true or false scenario here. 'it's just like, my opinion, man,' that maybe it's not really worth getting too uptight about liking a song that's little more than surface level. most music is a work of art. some is pure, shameless entertainment. speaking of entertainment, comparing one's taste in music pop to a film about breeding out intelligence is a pretty flimsy metaphor.

back on track, i kinda like ratt and l.a. guns too (at least on a casual level), but that's the wife's taste in road trip music rubbing off on me...

I think it depends on what it applies to. I don't think art is one of them.

I liked Evanescence for awhile when they were hot. It was definitely the closest thing to a guilty pleasure I had, but now it's all a bit dated to me. There are moments on the last Anathema record where I thought, "this is like Evanescence, but literally 1 million times better".

I honestly dislike most of Springsteen's body of work but I can agree. He's got a lasting appeal and is really talented. Not my cup of tea though.

I also talk shit and dislike most of U2's shit but I'd be lying if if I didn't say I loved Achtung Baby and Zooropa.

I wouldn't say it's necessarily a guilty pleasure because I tend to not really get embarrassed by what I listen to, but I guess you could count my infinite love for the Self Titled Paramore album a guilty pleasure. As a straight up Pop album, dude it's fuckin' flawless.

It isn't, its about their fanbase apparently. They call themselves Decepticons for some reason (Their frontman is a huge Transformers and Street Fighter fanboy, he's written songs about them both).

Chicago. I've been trying to get someone to go with me to one of their concerts forever, and they all just laugh at me, even my step-mom. I give up and will just go by myself when they play nearby in Oct. I don't know what it is about their music, brings back some childhood memories.

I'm 40 and Thriller was one of the first records I owned. I remember begging my mom to let me stay up late to watch the video premier.

Most of the songs mentioned here I wouldn't consider guilty pleasures at all. Just because something is successful, like Madonna or Bruce Springsteen, doesn't make it a guilty pleasure. I think there needs to be a separation: Michael Jackson is not a guilty pleasure, La Toya Jackson is.

Anyway...
I think Justin Timberlake's My Love is a perfect pop song.
Britney Spears' 'Blackout' album is obviously great. Just like Womanizer and Work Bitch. The album tracks aren't quite as good though.
ABBA is great.
(Though I guess only Britney Spears is the real guilty pleasure here.)
