    Emotionally Unstable Music

I may be asking a lot from people but…what are the top 5 (or more) songs that completely tear you to pieces? Obviously you don't need to leave any explanation, since it's obviously personal (maybe not).

    Anyways…here are my top 5.

    5. Unravelling by Harry Escott (Shame soundtrack)

    4. Paranoia Shields by The Dillinger Escape Plan

    3. What If We Could? by T-Rez & Atticus Ross (TGWTDT soundtrack)

    2. An Ending (Ascent) by Brian Eno

    1. Maggot Brain by Funkadelic (I dare anyone to listen to this while driving in the rain and not completely break down.)

    NIN - Leaving Hope

    Depeche Mode - Precious

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - No More Shall We Part (really the entire fucking album, but Hallelujah and Sweetheart Come probably do it the most for me)

Radiohead - Videotape (specifically the From the Basement performance of Thom Yorke by himself)

Clint Mansell - The Last Man, and Together We Will Live Forever (and pretty much any of The Fountain score, it's maybe the only music I genuinely just can't listen to most of the time because it honestly makes me cry almost anytime I hear it; I think I've only ever shown that film to two other people simply because it's so personal/affecting for me; I know I didn't order this list, but this is probably the number one thing here)

There's stuff I know I'd probably replace some of these with if I gave it more thought, but these are the first to come to mind. The Fountain score really is the most emotionally hitting thing for me though. I tried listening to some of it to find specifics just for this post and ended up turning it off because I realized I didn't want to feel that way right about now. A lot of NIN could fill a list like this, too, but considering where we all are, I figure that doesn't really need to be done.

these giant youtube threads are getting a little taxing to load, so i'll just leave this one here, as it never fails to stop me in my tracks and fuck me up royally. it's an unhinged, burn the world down sort of rambling mess of a suicidal song, perfect in its imperfection.

i could list a hundreds of songs that have a similar effect on me (and may have to get back to you anyway on that), but really this one takes the cake.

And I don't even like Mogwai that much.
Also: "The Humbling River" by Puscifer and, of course, Leaving Hope.

Try To Explain by The Flaming Lips just fucking kills me every time I hear it. It's like a really sad, devastating naivety. I'm getting choked up just thinking about the song and I only heard 2 seconds of it to post the clip.

Nude by Radiohead used to have the same effect until someone pointed out that the way Thom sings in it makes him sound like Herbert The Pervert from Family Guy =P

    Portishead - Roads
DJ Shadow - Midnight in a Perfect World (doesn't make me cry but makes me forget about everything that's around me)

Nothing really compares to this for me. Nothing is as emotionally destroying and soul crushing as piece of music.

the whole album is like a blanket of despair that's simultaneously comforting and devastating.
