    The Legend of Zelda

I've seen some discussions on The Legend of Zelda games, but I haven't found a catch-all thread of this franchise. I also thought that it definitely deserved its own thread on ETS.

I got back into The Legend of Zelda by playing A Link to the Past again. I also missed out on the Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64, but I just recently got it on my Nintendo 64. I actually played it on the Nintendo 64 before though, but only through borrowing it from somebody, or renting it from Blockbuster. A Link to the Past was also the very first Legend of Zelda game that I ever got into, and then Link's Awakening. I didn't actually follow it for a while until I finally got The Wind Waker much later on and it reminded me why I loved this franchise growing up. I also got into it right after getting into the Mario franchise.

Since then, I've also gotten Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. I still have a lot of catching up to do, and I'm just thankful that YouTube exists these days. I don't always look up advice as I seem to figure out most stuff by myself, but I'll admit that I still sometimes get stuck really bad. As for the next games I've thought of getting, I thought of getting Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons as I loved Link's Awakening. Getting Majora's Mask on the Nintendo also seems like the next best move as I've also enjoyed Ocarina of Time while having a lot of nostalgia for it as well.

It has also greatly interested me that A Link Between Worlds has also been an indirect sequel of A Link to the Past. Anyway, I just thought of reminiscing a bit, as I've always been a fan of this franchise, even though I've sometimes turned away from it. But that wasn't from not liking anymore. I just got caught up in other things, because well, that's just life, but I still have a lot of love for The Legend of Zelda. And as a regular habit of mine, I thought of posting what seems to be among some of the best URLs pertaining to all things The Legend of Zelda. And well, I thought it's nice to have threads being a one stop shop for the topic's URLs.

It's difficult to argue that the original Legend of Zelda or Ocarina of Time are NOT the greatest games of all time. Both are so forward thinking, so accessible and yet so fun, they really are the perfect games. As minimalist as they are, they also manage to have endearing, fun and interesting characters, all without any real dialogue.

I really enjoyed all of the notes hit by Twilight Princess. balancing great graphics, perfect motion controls, and the best art direction in the series, it felt like the best at the time. Didn't care much for the wolf sequences though.

I attempted to get at Skyward Sword, and I couldn't even push past the first dungeon. the Motion Plus controls just weren't tracking the way they were supposed to and I found it very frustrating. I enjoyed the story, though, which made this extra sad. Bottom line Skyward Sword blew it, and I found Link waving his arm around all funny like to be totally, totally jarring.

Finally, I got around to Windwaker about 2 months ago, the HD version on my Wii U, and that proved to be one of the best as well. Great art direction, great story and exploration in that game felt really exciting. One great thing about the game design was that the main story sort of forces you to explore the whole world at one point, which I found very admirable.

Great series. I'm sure the next big entry will be announced at E3 or however Nintendo designs to handle E3 next week.

Majora's Mask is by far my favourite in the series, followed by Link to the Past and Ocarina. I got a free download of Windwaker HD for registering Mario Kart 8 and I haven't played the original so I'm pretty excited to try it out.

Some rumors of a new Wii U Zelda at E3. If Nintendo brings the ruckus with a great presentation, they could take the show. The other guys pretty much coasted.

I've been following this game for a few months.

It's been a very long time since I specifically bought a console for a game, but...I think I'm in for a Switch.

if i had the money for a switch, i'd do it, but i don't, so i'll just be playing it on WiiU. however, i'm still SUPER excited about it. (i mean, i should be, i have a triforce tattoo)

Well, this was the motivation I needed to go back through the extensive games catalogue and start selling off things I'll never ever play again. Managed to snag a special edition with the map, bag, coin and soundtrack, and my first few sales have already paid for it. Pricey, but this game seems like it'll have one of the best soundtracks in Zelda history, and that's saying something.

A lot of rumors going around about its placement in the timeline. Many of them seem to point towards it being Spoiler: the first game in the Fallen Hero path post-Zelda II :O

The original Zelda does not hold up well at all, along with II, but they will always hold a special place in my heart. Twilight Princess on Gamecube is highly underrated, and the Wii version with motion controls just ruins the game, along with it being completely mirrored. Skyward sword was ok, but even though the motion controls worked much better, it overall ruins my Zelda experience. A Link To The Past will always be #1 for me, with OOT being a close second.

I think the original holds up great, actually. I just tried out a swordless run the other day ago, but got fed up with trying to corner blue Darknuts into groups to bomb them. So I moved on to the Zelda Randomizer hack and holy wow is that some absolute craziness.

both Zelda 1 and 2 hold up great. So does Link's Awakening (the game boy one), and Zelda 3 was the best. It's all been downhill since then

ALTTP and OOT are tied for best.
I agree. I still love both of the originals, but they are a bit jarring for me after coming from later installments. I play a complete play through with the first two once almost every year, and it just doesn't hold up for me.
