so, i was obsessed with the movie "the wizard" when i was a kid (i've literally seen it over 40 times; the guy at coconuts video used to make fun of me because i rented it so many times) and in it, they used "send me an angel" by real life, but i never thought to look in the end credits to figure out what it was.

then, a little over a year ago, i made my fiancee watch it with me, rediscovered my love for the song, and we found it on youtube. it's seriously one of our jams.

also, i much prefer the '89 redux of the song (and the video...and not just because the bassist looks exactly like jason bateman.)

This music brings back so many memories, wow, amazing.

Like, when I hear this song, I can remember sitting on the little red stool near the door at the new wave/punk club where I checked IDs and took cover charge for a year (they had a jukebox that played music constantly between bands); I can remember the lighting, the little tear in the upholstery of the red stool, it's like I'm back in that bar ...music sure is powerful.

Does anyone have a good list of some quintessential songs that defined the 80s? I'm starting my 80s project in January but I feel like the lists I'm seeing are a little too cerebral and tend towards the music enthusiasts. I fully intend to listen to the best of the decade but I also want the disposable sugary pop stuff that affected mainstream culture, the stuff of John Hughes movies, the stuff we still hear today (We Got The Beat, Material Girl, Tainted Love, you know, just whatever). Would be much appreciated!

I wasn't too sure about bumping the Tori Amos thread just for this video, so I thought of posting The Big Picture by Y Kant Tori Read here. I can't help but actually LOVE the overall sound of this song and album.

It's like my love for Ministry's With Sympathy, and it makes me fascinated to know how much they both loathe those albums, and yeah, it's Tori Amos's With Sympathy/Revenge all right.

funny you should mention that...since with sympathy is literally the ONLY ministry album i like (but i love all of tori's stuff up through scarlet's walk).

I could only speak for myself here, and I am, but a 1980s thread in The Musical Revolution section seems to be incomplete without mentioning Michael Jackson, even if for just a little bit. I also recall him getting a good chunk of love from ETS in spite of his eccentricities, controversies, and being overplayed.

Then again, that sort of is one of the biggest points of being a pop star. (The part about getting "overplayed" that is.)
