Lisa Fischer to be on Underneath It All: A NIN Podcast (soon)

    Hey pigs,

As some of you may know, a couple of us from this very board got together to do a little podcast dedicated to all things NIN. We have had the opportunity to review some great albums and interview some awesome guests (Richard Patrick & Russell Mills).

We will soon be interviewing Lisa Fischer, as most of you know she sang back-up for NIN during the Tension Tour. She's also sung back-up for The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Luther Vandross and many, many more. She's had quite a solo career too.

We thought it would be fun (interesting) to have a couple questions from the fans, so leave your question in this thread or visitwww.underneathitall.org to send us a question for Miss Fischer.

    Thanks for participating and listening!

What was the hardest song to rehearse and sing every night?
Did you give any input as to how you should sing on a track, or did Trent already know what he wanted from you and Sharlotte?
Were you shocked that Trent wanted to use you and Sharlotte on tour considering the band's general reputation as a heavy metal/industrial/etc. band?
Were there any tracks that were rehearsed that didn't get played on the tour?

What was the biggest difference between working with NIN on this tour compared to the other acts you have worked with in the past?
Did you feel welcomed by the audience immediately or did it take a few shows for them to get used to your new presence?

What songs were rehearsed but never played aside from "Everything"?

Simple question, but what was her favorite to perform, and why?
She probably studied the catalog. If she could go back on tour with the band and Sharlotte, what other song(s) would she be itching to rework with their vocals?

Robin because he'd braid seashells and urchins into his dreads, rip his shirt open, grow a beard and become King of the Sea

What was it like getting together with Gary Numan to perform his song "We Take Mystery" with NIN? Did Trent suggest that track? I don't think anyone else has played it onstage in 25 years.

How different was the rehearsal process with NIN from, say, The Rolling Stones, or anyone else you've toured with in the past?

(And also, god damn, why are you and Sharlotte so awesome?)

As a side-note, it's amazing how far this podcast has come. You've been in the big leagues for a while now, it seems.

ATLITW has its live debut late in the tour. How long did the band rehearse and prepare for that song in particular?

I'm interested in the whole process in the beginning, so I'd ask a whole series of questions:

Tell us about the day you got the invitation to join the tour. (hopefully she'll tell a nice story)
Did TR call you personally to invite you to the tour?
He's said in interviews that he made the decision pretty late in the process to bring you and Sharlotte into the mix -- how long did you have from the offer until you had to show up to rehearsals?
How familiar were you at the time with Nine Inch Nails' music?
Did he give you some particular songs to think about before that first rehearsal?/Did you have time to study the catalog before that first rehearsal?
Did he have clear ideas of how you and Sharlotte would fit into the songs, or were you asked to bring your own ideas to the table? (Or a combination of both.)
Tell us about that first day in rehearsals.
How many days did you have in rehearsals until the first show?
Are there any songs that drastically changed, from how TR first envisioned them to the finished product, throughout the rehearsal process? (If she says Black Noise, for instance, find out what the original vision for the song was.)
Since, by all reports, the tour had to come together so quickly right at deadline, how much did you all continue to "rehearse" new songs for the setlist while you were on the road?

I'll edit if I think of more...

Can Lisa please confirm if this show happened or not?!?!

    http://www.ninwiki.com/2013/09/21_Los_Angeles,_CA

    2013/09/21 Los Angeles, CA

Nine Inch Nails played in Los Angeles, CA on September 21, 2013 as a secret rehearsal show for the Tension 2013 tour.
    [edit] Notes

    • Setlist below may not be accurate; awaiting confirmation.

    • 9/26/2013 edit - Setlist was removed from setlist.fm, but received several revisions before that site's admins locked the ability to upload any further setlists. Given the fact that there has been no social media activity from anyone in the band or anyone in attendance confirm that this show took place, it is highly likely that this show did not take place.

    • The show was, however, acknowledged by the NIN camp in early September when a sweepstakes to win the opportunity to attend was announced on the official NIN Twitter.[1] The lack of info from the NIN camp after the show was to have taken place could have been due to a desire to keep spoilers to a minimum.

it just never materialized. it was in talks four years ago when oslin actually started this thread, and there was a bit of back and forth communication, but then nothing ever came of it. currently we don't even have a recording date lined up for our next regular episode (not sure what's going on with that other than the other folks being busy).

I should have paid attention to the post dates... my bad.
