Aww damn I remember Vader! When I was a kid and still liked wrestling, my friend and I were at an event where he was on the card. As he walked by us towards the ring I yelled out 'Vader you suck!' and he yelled back 'FUCK OFF, KID.' hahaha. RIP

Aww man, that's awful. In Jan I was at a King's X show in Dallas and Vinnie was up in the balcony. He and his lady friend were rocking out and everything seemed good. Legendary drummer.

Yeah man it's extra rough on us texans I would say.
These guys were the DFW hometown heroes who "saved metal" in the 90s. Fuck, I just can't believe this.
Plus he and Phil never made up. Goddamn.

One thing I admired about Vinnie Paul, I don't know if this was his idea or not, but his drums cut through the mix and were up front sort of like some old industrial music. Lars did it on AJFA but he took it to another level. It somehow made it sound even heavier.

As a kid who had no musical identity yet and only listened to his sisters Nirvana tape, this band is what got me into the hard shit. Without Pantera, I wouldnt be into metal.

He was spotted at at least one NIN show last week, and also attended the Vegas show in October.

People fucked with me in middle school. Instead of crying about it, I came home and listened to Vulgar Display of Power. This was in 92 or 93.
Now I was into metallica and megadeth, but Pantera was just SO much harder.
It helped me through a lot of shit. I'm not really a metalhead: for me, most of the "hard stuff" is heavy drum and bass ( the genre, not the instruments.)

But pantera. Good god. They're just IT.

And again, at the risk of sounding elitist, it honestly WAS/is incredibly special that they came from D F Dub.

We've got Ride for Dime every year. We've got fucking murals of Dime in Deep Ellum (you probably aren't aware of deep ellum if you aren't from texas.)

When Dime died and people gathered, the COPS played pantera through the PA on their police cars.

And a WHOLE lot of us ran into those guys, at local shows or at the Clubhouse.

I know that everyone loves pantera, but they were OURS in a way, like Rush in toronto or Hova in Brooklyn.

I'm not trying to take away from anyone else's grief.
I'm just saying that, if you came up in DFW (or anywhere near it,) I think it's more like losing someone you know.

If there's anything Pantera was known for. It was partying. I could imagine Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, and Ronnie Van Zant at a bar talking about good music while Dimebag and Vinnie are serving them drinks and drinking with them.

only positive of this horrible news was that I heard a HellYeah song that is actually good. Thanks Sirius Liquid Metal:

Code Orange played a ton of Pantera coming on and leaving the stage at their show Saturday night.

Never really understood the hate for Hellyeah. They’re definitely not great, but they get lumped into “shitty metal” for reasons I’ve never understood. Oh well.

Cowboys From Hell opened up the Golic and Wingo show this morning on ESPN radio. They didn’t mention Vinnies death but I’m sure there are many fans there. Not sure if the Dallas Stars have paid their respects yet as the NHL draft was this weekend.
