holy shit... Steve Albini was a legend. I didn't always agree with his perspectives and philosophies regarding production, but I always respected his opinions, and considered everything he had to say to be at the very least educational. He was a unique pioneer, and he was never afraid to go against the grain. Albini was always the opposite of "selling out," and is one of the clearest examples of a musical creator who stuck to his principles and ideas and didn't compromise them. Everyone in the music production world revered him (or is an idiot).

This is a sad day.

Obviously everyone will mention his work on In Utero (rightly so), but just looking at all the bands he crossed paths with over the years is pretty astounding. The records he did with Low are some of my absolute favorites.

Well said. I caught an interview with him recently and was pleasantly surprised to learn he was actually more flexible in his thinking on production. He had good things to say about Butch Vig, for example. Seems he did really stick to his philosophy but that he also didn't want or expect everyone else to fall in line and do the exact same thing.

Also, I mean dude is forever a fucking legend.

What an incredible dude. I can't recommend the ESPN 30 for 30 "The Luckiest Guy In The World" enough, even if, like me, you aren't much of a basketball fan. It's 4 parts so it's a bit of a commitment but it's so well done and his story is fascinating. RIP to a real [tall] one.

I met him at the Vegas NIN show in ‘22 and he was kind and excited about getting to go backstage. He was hoping to see the “Fashion” cover played live and I really wanted to see “And All That Could Have Been.”

I reached out after to say we both got our wishes and it was nice to meet him and he responded in kind.

He was funny too. I was a KINGCAST fan and looked forward to his Hellraiser podcast. This is very sad. I know he was having a rough time. Goddammit.

Donald Sutherland was never the traditional leading man, but, he sure stole the scenes he was in it: Be it his butt cheeks in Animal House or his chilling portrayal of a pyromaniac in Backdraft. RIP to a damn fine actor.
