yeah, I remember when he tried to do a set in Spanish, without really being bilingual. The audience apparently got offended and left before he started smashing watermelons or whatever.
well, there's also the whole Gallagher Too thing.Conflict with brother
In the early 1990s, Gallagher's younger brother Ron asked him for permission to perform shows using Gallagher's trademark Sledge-O-Matic routine. Leo granted his permission on the condition that Ron, who shared a strong likeness to Leo, and his manager clarified in promotional materials that it was Ron Gallagher, not Leo Gallagher, who was performing. Ron typically performed in venues smaller than those in which Leo Gallagher performed. After several years, Ron began promoting his act as Gallagher Too or Gallagher Two. In some instances, Ron's act was promoted in a way that left unclear the fact that he was not the original Gallagher.[10][11] This, and Ron's off-stage troubles, left a stain on Leo's reputation as well.[citation needed]
Leo initially responded by requesting only that his brother not use the Sledge-O-Matic routine. Ron nonetheless continued to tour as Gallagher Too using the routine. In August 2000, Leo sued his brother for trademark violations and false advertising.[10] The courts ultimately sided with Leo, and granted an injunction prohibiting Ron from performing any act that impersonated his brother in small clubs and venues. This injunction also prohibited Ron from intentionally bearing likeness to Leo.[11]
Maybe it's just me, but I feel kind of fucked up when you guys call a person 'human garbage' after they're dead...especially on a board that included borderline worship of "Musical Jeenyus Marilyn Manson" for decades
I reserve terms like "human garbage" for, say, Peter Scully: NOT people who are...sorry, WERE, just bigots or whatever.
I mean, you guys do you. Cast stones. Whatever.
But I can GUARANTEE that ALL of us have held an opinion or committed an action that makes US "human garbage" in the eyes of SOMEONE, and, as someone who is currently contemplating the death of his soulmate, I find such terms fairly distasteful.
I'm fucking openly bisexual. So is my wife. So is our son.
SOME people don't dig that.
Whatever. Fuck 'em.
Who gives a fuck?
It's ONE FUCKING OPINION from ONE tiny talking monkey on a tiny speck of a planet, living a life that goes by in a blink of an eye.
It doesn't make anybody "human garbage."
Jesus fuck, the only place I ever heard talk like that, before this thread, was when I was 20 and into really intense porn.
Why didn't you all call Bowie "human garbage?" He was a pedophile and a Nazi/fascist and various points in his career.
We are all flawed. If YOU'RE reading this? YOU are flawed. YOU did something fucked up, or believed/believe something fucked up.
I don't think i'll be checking this thread much more.

I think you're taking this way too personally. Was he the worst of the worst? No. There were way worse people out there, but that doesn't mean he gets a pass. He was a hack comic who also happened to be racist, sexist, and homophobic. We don't need to shed any tears for him.
And when Marilyn Manson goes underground, I'll call him a piece of shit, and wish I could get back the money I gave him.
Also, he was pretty much a laughing stock up until his recent comeback, and I still think that new album is good but I credit the production. Otherwise he's been a "dopey clown" for well over a decade. Sometimes we need to stress the "shortcomings" of the recently deceased, so they don't get propped up as if they were gods while everyone eulogizes them fondly.
Part of the reason that when Reagan died, a lot of people felt the need to shout out over the praise and tears that, actually, the guy was an asshole. When Rush Limbaugh ate it, I wanted to throw a party.

I legit lost a friend over Rush the day he got the presidential medal. The guy was so excited about it and was telling me how awesome Rush was. I did a mediocre version of the Bill Hicks / Rush Limbaugh bit (we were at work after all) and said it sullied the existence of the award that he received it.
and @Jinsai
Lemme preface this by saying I love you guys.
I don't give a FUCK about whomever you guys were discussing. I'm not even sure who it WAS. It damn sure doesn't have to do woth me being some kind of superfan of whoever you guys were talking about.
@Erneuert sent me a message about Stephen King, and I thought he'd died, so I checked the thread, and, again, saw something like 'human trash" or whatever.
What I'm SAYING is, I find the phrase "human garbage" being lobbed at someone unbearably distasteful, in general: ESPECIALLY if they've just DIED.
Always have, always will.
Phrases like that creeped me out in certain PORN I watched as a teenager. It stuck.
Bottom line: I have a problem with dehumanizing people. That's not ok with me, unless we're talking about some awful warlord or some shit, and even then, I think 'terrible person" is enough.
I just took a moment to express that.
Edit: Gallagher? Yeah, I don't know anything about that person, except some shit about a watermelon.

Sorry. My mistake.
It was Pile of Trash, this time.
I've goddamn sure seen "human trash" or "human garbage," here,.too, though.
I don't know shit about who or what y'all are talking about, honestly.
I just think that deHUMANIZING humans, ESPECIALLY posthumously, is in poor taste, unless they were horrible pedophiles or some shit.
That's all I'm saying.
That's just my opinion
Didn't mean to get on a soapbox. I honestly don't even have TIME to read about whoever the new dead "trash" is right now,.
I'm not quite myself, currently,.and, as you guys know, I'm GENERALLY open to people's ideas and opinions to a FAULT.
Everyone can say and think whatever they want, obviously.
I did not mean to make anyone feel bad or guilty, or offend anyone.
I only came to this board to give update about one thing; I'm. Not really in rational discussion mode.
Aorry.

Ok so I REALLY thought about this, and realized that its a very specific LINGUISTIC thing, and it MAY be temporary.
Stephen King is a hero to me.
Let's say he has a heart attack tomorrow.
If someone said
"damn. I HATE that worthless motherfucker, and am thrilled that he's dead.
I just wish he'd been starved nearly to death.for 20 days, with dogs pissing on him every hour, on the hour.
Then, they should have chopped his dick off, skinned him Cartel.style, reversed the starvation, had him fucked by a donkey several times, shot him up with meth so.he couldn't pass out from pain, and fed him, alive, to pigs, SLOWLY.
Then, I hope he wakes up in a literal Baptist hell, wherein he spends eternity in a toilet, full of liquid shit, treading...liquid shit.
He's the worst motherfucking godawful piece of shit who ever lived. Fuck him and everything he did and said and stood for.'
Well? I'd be like 'yeah, I liked the dude,' more or less, albeit in a lengthier and more eloquent manner.
This has nothing to do with me liking or disliking, lol, GHALLAHER? Or.whatever? I don't know ANYTHING about this person, except...I've seen an image of him with a watermelon. I'm NOT a fan.
Actually, I wouldn't know if I were a fan or not.
It's just that, for some.deep seated reason (and I think I know what it is), certain, very specific phrases started becoming distasteful to me, in about 2000.
Then, those phrases were spoken and written regarding friends of mine who died young during the ensuing years.
NOW, the person I may llikely lose is, well, I've never been closer to anyone.
And I finally lost my shit, here.. It won't happen again...not regarding THIS subject.
Any of you guys who took the time to read this, I appreciate it.
And I hope this clears everything up.

There's misogyny... which is why i celebrated when Phyllis Schlafly passed away, and made sure not to let people get away with calling her "a strong conservative voice."

I'm still just trying to say that it's a VERY personal language thing, at a VERY fucked up time.
And I'm not the language police.
That's it.
I've apologized. Please forgive me.
Again, I don't know what ghallger is. I have to go back to the hospital now.
Well, Gallagher was a prop comic. Without him we wouldn't have Carrottop, or that guy with the dumb puppets. His shtick was at the end of his shows, he would smash large fruit (like watermelons etc) with a gigantic, comically oversized sledgehammer. His attempts at high brow humor are cringe. He was generally a very easy person to get annoyed with. He was obnoxious, so it doesn't help his case that he was a homophobic racist.
There's a distinction, when you're calling someone trash, that you're not talking about someone who made some bad life choices, or maybe had some shitty perspectives or opinions they didn't atone for (in time). This guy lived to be 75 or something, so he had time.
But yeah, this isn't something like a lapse in good judgement or some bad decisions. This guy dedicated himself to shitty behavior and bad comedy. It gets complicated though...
I think of Morton Downey Jr. The guy was basically a cross between Wally George (who came before) and Jerry Springer, who came after and was obviously 'inspired' by his act, just Jerry let the guests say all the racist, disgusting, homophobic shit. Morton Downey Jr said all that shit and more. He would go into the audience and forcibly kiss women. He would invite feminists onto the show just to harass them in abrasively misogynistic ways. He would encourage smoking, and would sign the packs of cigarettes of underage smokers. He also got accused of sexual assault in the studio bathroom of a female guest on the show.
He built his entire public persona around being a troll. Was it his way of venting, some caricature that he invented but really didn't endorse? His surrounding family and friends described him as thoughtful and caring, considerate. He was a failed poet, and really, some of his poems, though maudlin and nothing spectacular, weren't terrible or laughably awful. He was also an aspiring musician but that never came through. People close to him said that his entire thing was an act. When he died, Gloria Allred attended his funeral. When he got his lung cancer diagnosis, he dedicated the rest of his short life to encouraging kids to not smoke, to make amends for the way that he treated women and people in general.
But I'll pass on the gas lighting; Morton Downey Jr was a complete asshole, just like the people inspired by him are, and Hitler was a vegetarian painter.
@Jinsai ok , I feeel.you.
So galluger smashed fruits and was a racist homophobe.
I wasn't aware, like, of anything about him/her.
Its just that the specific language fucked my head up, due to current personal live/die shit, in my life, and words that have been said about my dead friends.
But I am not the arbiter of language, here, or anywhere.
I understand that
Galerger sounds like a piece of shit.
It's apparently making me lose friends.

I don't think anyone is going after you in any specific way. It's just a discussion about the recently deceased, with a side note that he was an asshole. I can get how this can be a sensitive thing though.
I read this article earlier today and thought about this conversation.

Mimi from Low has passed away!?!?!?!
Only 55. I was at the show for the Double Negative tour, but had to leave early after 3 or so songs for reasons that don't matter. This really hurts. I don't think I realized how important the band was to me, or how much I loved them until now, when they will never make music ever again. The news came out like 8 days ago, and I only just heard about it now from the band's official page. This is really sad.
