I also heard Ron Moody of Oliver! has also died today at 91. Yesterday, Robert Chartoff. The guy who produced Rocky died yesterday.
This is a bad day. Christopher Lee and Dusty Rhodes. Gone.... R.I.P. you great men.
Goddammit, today can fuck right off.
Christopher Lee is now Free.
Yep, today fucking blows. RIP Christopher Lee, who had a long life and an excellent career. RIP Dusty Rhodes, whose legacy will live on through his sons and in the knowledge he shared with other wrestlers through the years.
Although his body of work is impressive, this is his most well known work. Rest in peace James Horner. Gone way too soon...
I remember reading a rumor that he was going to score The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo before the announcement made by you-know-who did. And as much as I love that score, it would have been interesting to see what he could have done with it.
I would have loved that too.
It's been confirmed by Variety
I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the news...
While I think he was overrated at times and didn't take too kindly over his score The New World wasn't used in the final film as he took shots at Malick. He is still a damn fine composer for his work with James Cameron. He will be missed.
It's sad that he's died... I was never really a big fan of his style, especially for the films that he's best known for. Still, he had a really unique and immediately recognizable signature sound. You knew it was a James Horner soundtrack within seconds, and even though he inspired a bunch of other composers to rip him off, you could always tell it wasn't him. His central motifs were catchy as hell, and his instrumentation was really a hallmark. His music owned the films that he scored, and he was scoring so many huge movies... Now that he's gone, a lot of films that would have featured his trademark sound will be different experiences, and that's an interesting (and somber) thing to consider.
People often underestimate how important a soundtrack is to a film. It informs you emotionally how to process the narrative, and it plays with your expectations. A lot of the time, a soundtrack is actually the key element that really sets the terror or gets you to tear up. It's usually seen as something more behind the scenes, but I've always had huge respect for the kings of the soundtrack world. Maybe there's some times when I could have personally asked for a little less pan flutes, but my opinion doesn't matter, and he was a legend.
