Orchestra or no orchestra, it's still cool to see that they're playing "Godhead's Lament" again!

I think they are planning on recording an upcoming gig where they are playing all of Ghost Reveries, for it's 10th anniversary.

Interesting, the blabbermouth article about wembley states they are finishing the new album, didn't know they even started working on it.

    This article, right?
    http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/ope...wembley-arena/

I'm on theopethforum.com, and I didn't see any mention of it until now! (Though to be fair, there's not a whole lot of traffic over there.) Hopefully people will be ready for a third consecutive album without growls and actually judge it by its own merits. Given the circus following the revelation that Heritage was growl-free, I sometimes forget that I'm not the only one who actually liked that album.

I'm really curious to know if this is the album Mikael feels warrants some growling vocals. I've missed hearing those after listening to previous albums. If not, no big deal. I like the newer Opeth, as well.

I doubt this album will feature growls. I don't know if Mikael will ever record growling vocals again. However, based on recent comments by the band, this album will be heavier or perhaps more metal than the last two efforts.

Curious to know whether this too is mixed by Steven Wilson (I certainly hope so).

He could never growl again, even on tour, and I'd be fine with that – but only if he made interesting music again.

Pale Communion was a great step forward but I'm so overdone with the '70s rehash thing. Opeth don't need growls if they write strangely-structured, surprising material. That's what made the old stuff strong, not the growls.

Plus, he has a great singing voice and I for one would hate to see it undone by growling.

I loved the classic direction that was hinted in Watershed and subsequently polished in Heritage and Pale Communion. But these albums all felt more a cohesive collection of songs about similar topics than a thoughtfully planned and hashed-out story. Mikael is awesome at making concept records as established by Ghost Reveries, Still Life, etc. If Sorceress is indeed a return to story-driven concept music, hopefully it captures my attention and ears the way those earlier albums did and still do to this day. That's not to say that Pale Communion and Heritage didn't have great music on them. "River" on Pale Communion is one of my favorite songs by any band ever. I also adored "I Feel the Dark" on Heritage. But it would be nice to hear Mikael explore his masterful concept album abilities again, regardless of the musical style implored.

Yeah, but that riff at the end sounds like some classic Opeth.

The writing, yes, definitely. The production is way different though, even from Pale Communion - guitars are super dark when distorted and super DI-ish when clean. It'll be interesting.
