There will never be another Lou Reed. From his work with the Velvet Underground and his solo work. The man is truly the King of New York. Not Jay-Z. He's not even worthy to kiss Lou's shoes.

I hope Bowie does a tribute to the man since Bowie covered his songs and even co-produced one of his great albums in Transformer though I think Berlin is his best work.

Btw, Lou Reed was Jewish, and this is an interesting book for those who want to delve into a fascinating and somewhat unknown topic. Some of it is crap, but nevertheless ...

Well, not to nitpick but the Stooges were from Ann Arbor and weren't a part of the NY scene. :-) The Velvets were related to the old Andy Warhol scene while CBGB was the opposite of that. Max's was more Warhol.

You are correct, the past gets cloudy at times, love the pic with creem magazine "boy howdy"

Heh, I wonder if he's reading this.

That's Angie Bowie on the upper-left in that photo, btw.

I really enjoyed the LuLu album. Most people who bought it were expecting to hear a Metallica album and just didn't "get" it.

No... I mean, it's great if you liked it. Some people did. Apparently Fourtet thought it was brilliant.

I hate Metallica, love Lou Reed, and I'm not sure what my expectations were. It actually bugs me that we're going over this, because I don't want to gear up to say something negative about a hero of mine that has just died yesterday.... but that album was terrible. I "got" it. I just hated it because it was ridiculous.

If you don't like an album that Lou Reed made, saying so isn't disrespectful to the dead. At least you gave it a chance. It's still a lot better than Metal Machine Music and St. Anger, IMHO.

Metal Machine Music is awesome... and St Anger is another shitty album by that Metallica band that I don't give a fuck about.

    De gustibus non est disputandum

I try to be open-minded and try to see the qualities in even so-called "bad" albums, i.e, Van Halen 3, but I really have to draw the line at Metal Machine Music. I can't get past more than a minute of it. Even Lou Reed said ""Well, anyone who gets to side four is dumber than I am." I'm not calling you dumb, btw.

i'm a fan of both dark ambient and drone/noise music music, so Metal Machine Music was a great addition to my collection. i remember listening to it from start to finish one day and trying to pick out specific melodies from the miasma. good times.

Metal Machine Music is definitely a difficult listen, no question. i'm not so into drone that i'd spin it once a month, probably not even once a year. but sometimes you just want something that can't be matched by anything else, and you want it to sonically drill it's way into your brain and back out again. only in moderation though, heh. i'm going to be listening to Transformer and Berlin more over the next few weeks.

As we're all bummed about Lou's passing, there is however some good news.... The Jonas Brothers have called it quits.

It can be seen as good news, but isn't there three of them in that band? That just means each of them will be pumping three times the shit in solo projects. Its like space debris its better if it stays together because one cluster of shit is better than several.
I think I would rather be bummed about Lou I have been playing his albums.

Holy shit. Man that's really fucked up. Idk maybe that shit really is some kind of psychosis. I mean how else would anything like that even remotely sound plausible? Terribly sad set of events.

Ew God, Jesus Christ that's some fucked-up shit, there. Wtf.

Evidently, when you're a cute rock star with women fawning over you, the only thing left is baby-raping.

Hope he sues, because he'll get part of the inevitable backlash the real guy is getting now.

Did Lostprophets ever have a hit in the U.S., or were they just big in Europe?

Weird timing with this story as well. A sad coincidence, regardless if Roy is actually guilty or innocent, is that Pete Townshend played guitar on the album of his that came out this year.

The weird (awful?) thing is that back in the 70s, pre-teen and early-teen groupies were deemed perfectly "acceptable" and nobody seemed to question it. Jimmy Page was famously bonking a 14-year-old, Lori Maddox. It was absolutely illegal but the rock stars didn't seem to give a shit about any Ew factor.

Here, this article is fairly accurate.
