I will definitely be at the LA gig.

‘Infinite Granite’ - Aug 20
First single ‘Great Mass of Color’ coming June 9.
Digging the new band font. Very 70’s psychedelic lol.

My man!
Whoa. At about 5 minutes in to ‘Great Mass of Color’ shit goes offffffff
I really genuinely thought that I was getting Rick Rolled or something with this song.
It's fucking GREAT. But yeah, this sounds more in line with HUM or NOTHING or The Smiths rather than the Deafheaven that we are all familiar with. But I really like it. Very high hopes for the album now.
Where?
Spotify and Quboz. Just need a VPN set to Australia. It’ll be out there and on YT tomorrow.

Sorry forgot to post lol. Just bought a new house and been busier than a motherfucker smh.
Thank you!
Im really liking this one. As a giant Deafheaven fan who has long felt ambivalent at best about the vocals this one basically has me wanting them to redo basically all of their vocals.
It's a nice left turn kind of track for them, very excited to hear the rest
George posted the following on his Instagram. Looks like JMJ might have produced it.
Preorders up. Album indeed produced by JMJ. Had to cop a shirt with that sweet deluxe zoetrope vinyl. Let’s fucking gooooo.
I couldn't resist ordering the beautiful shellburst blue vinyl. The new single was so unexpected and so wonderful. I've had it on repeat this morning.
I can't wait for every new interview with the band to ask them about using clean vocals, hahaha. I mean, I'm curious too, but you know that'll be the one thing they focus on...
Got that Shellburst as well. Kinda wish the deluxe edition was something other than Picture Discs but whatever. This album is going to fucking rule regardless.
The shellburst pressing is on my order. Can’t wait.
The new single is radically different than everything else in the catalog and I kinda dig it for that fact.
Well that was unexpected and pretty awesome
Rough trade has an exclusive silver as well as the indie exclusive.

FWIW it looks like this will be their mellowest / poppiest album pretty much throughout. Rough Trade says the black metal vocals are all but absent, and Brian Cook did the bio for the album and says much of the same.
Hm, I love this song but not super thrilled about eschewing the long metal tracks... I'm down for the metal vocals to be gone entirely, but the music?

Just really hoping this isn't another Mastodon situation
While I love the shoegaze influence in heavy bands, I've never been a fan of just shoegaze style bands. Deafheaven leaning fully into it will certainly be interesting and I'll check out the full album. That said, expectations are a bit tempered.
I just think that... If Deafheaven had always been just shoegaze or just black metal songs of average length I would have never noticed them, because there are plenty of bands in either genre
So I have tried to get into these guys for years. -- watched a ton of interviews and some live clips and sat down with a couple of their LPs and nothing ever resonated. Maybe its the genre rather than the band in particular. The consistent mountain lion/jaguar growl wasn't doing it for me.
Fast forward to this past Saturday, (my birthday), my pug died from a fucking freak accident that was my fault -- my wife and kids spend the entire day in tears. I wake up Sunday morning to go workout and decide "why, not, new single? lets try it". Had GMOC on repeat the entire time - fucking great track. Very cathartic for me. Very excited for the album.

May or may not have heard a few snippets. Rest of the album seems to have some heavier parts but overall expect much of the same as GMOC.
