Because it doesn't involve Georgia it goes here. Because it's not a good story (trigger warning: dude's a child molester) I'm only linking and not embedding.

terrible
It's horrible for several reasons. And downright scary. According to an updated report at CNN: "The new variant was also found to have spread to humans, with 214 confirmed infections as of Friday... Allowing the virus to spread could potentially limit the effectiveness of future vaccines."
Denmark mink Covid crisis worsens. Here's what it means
If a virus mutates significantly, a new vaccine is needed. Similar to what is currently done for influenza. Ever year the flu vaccine is different. If COVID continues to mutate significantly, the ability to control it with vaccine is much more difficult as the vaccine would need to be continuously updated. And like the flu, human immunity to one variant would not necessarily mean immunity to another variant.
An update from the WHO includes this observation: "Minks can act as a reservoir of SARS-CoV-2, passing the virus between them, and pose a risk for virus spill-over from mink to humans. People can then transmit this virus within the human population. Additionally, spill-back (human to mink transmission) can occur. It remains a concern when any animal virus spills in to the human population, or when an animal population could contribute to amplifying and spreading a virus affecting humans. As viruses move between human and animal populations, genetic modifications in the virus can occur."

So this disease may become endemic. It's certainly possible. With annual COVID shots like annual flu shots. And developing effective treatments will be key to keeping the death rate low as possible.
HOW is it spreading from mink to human? Aerosol?
Vets have seen dogs and cats that test for Covid, here, but they’re asymptomatic and there is zero evidence that the pets pass the virus back to humans. The mink farmers got Covid, how do they know they didn’t get it FROM EACH OTHER and gave it to the animals but the animals did not pass it back? I guess we’ll find out after all the mink are dead and the idiots are still getting Covid.
The good thing is this will end their awful mink farms.

^^ Wtf what an asshole
One of the methods used to trace infectious transmission pathways is the genetic signature of the virus. To put it simply, they look at the full genetic sequence of the virus. This is not new or controversial science. Another new article at CNN (linked below) discusses this a bit.
Mutations of a virus, which happen for many reasons, can result in a less dangerous or a more dangerous outcome. There are many aspects of the virus which can change via mutations. Ability to spread and severity of the disease are two obvious concerns. So far there does not seem to be significant evidence that the mink variant is going to be more dangerous. But the potential for a more dangerous variant does exist.
And it's just not the mutated virus which is a reason for concern. According to an article in Scientific American (linked below): "The larger issue is the potential for the virus to spread independently in animal populations. Researchers fear that mink and related species will form a “reservoir,” providing a permanent refuge for the virus. That would significantly complicate the battle against SARS-CoV-2. For example, say the virus has been completely eradicated in one region. If, however, it continues to be present in domesticated animals or even pets, it could reemerge at any time as if out of the blue."

ALL the tagging seems fucked the last week or so. It’s adding font tags, not showing content, intermittently breaking. Idk.

Edit: The tweet said something to the effect of "I keep hearing about Joe Biden transitioning. I didn't know he was gender fluid"

I hope he looks like Santa before the election comes! Because, honestly, I didn't know I could get more excited for Joe biden, but if he's also Santa, that might just do it....
Well this is more than slightly creepy, what the heck?

I couldn’t decide whether to post this here or in the little things that piss you off thread, but this isn’t little.
Read the entire thing. You won’t believe it:
