I’ve always been in the “why do we give such a fuck about the personal lives of the royal family” camp, but that sort of thing is a global institution. There’s no privacy, and I can imagine it would be insane to battle cancer in that sort of spotlight, especially if maybe you’d just want to be left alone.

That was wild! Started as a low rumble then about 2-3 seconds of much stronger rattle, followed by more low rumbling.
No damage or outages that I'm aware of. I know of people that had pictures fall off the wall or lamps knock over.

wtf, earlier in the week there was a tornado where I grew up - a very hilly area not prone to such flights of fancy from the atmosphere - and now an earthquake?

The upcoming government administration of the Netherlands consists of a coalition of nativist islamophobic fascists, classical liberal cryptofascists, secular judeo-christian conservative confessionalists and litterally a Big Agro lobbygroup. National media keep referring to this coalition as center-right. The man they just nominated for PM (head of government) is the former head of the national intelligence service, former director of the national anti-terrorism taskforce and former secretary-general of immigration services. He has been known to skirt the law and violate civil rights for efficiency's sake.

This coalition does not have a senate majority, so they are looking for allies in the senate amongst represenatives of the calvinist theocratic party, the right-wing libertarian party, the party for retirees and the FSB-puppeted neonazi party. (I wish I was being facetious in labeling some of these.)

Keep in mind that if he is unable to complete his term in the Senate, Pennsylvania's governor appoints an interim senator. Seems that PA has a decent governor in Josh Shapiro so you don't have to worry about a right-wing nut job being tapped to finish out the term.
