As for me, I actually kept hearing built instead of meant on Last. That still happens to me.

    Oh, there goes another one.

    Down In It

Actual: "I used to want it all."

What I keep hearing: "I used to work it all."

    -Ahead of Ourselves-

Actual: "With our snouts in the dirt"
Misheard: "With a schnapps in the dark"

I heard that until the multitracks came out.
    wait WHAT?
It doesn't say "take me if you want me?"
    Seriously?

I've thought that's what it said for, idk, 22 years? Since it fucking came out and I always found that line to be chilling

I guess this isnt really a misheard lyric, but sometimes when I'm thinking about Ahead of Ourselves (not listening to it), my stupid idiot brain replaces the "obsolete, insignificant " bit with "big bowl of sauerkraut, every single morning" from Weird Al's Albuquerque.

Reminds me of that lyrical parody that someone wrote about 20 years ago, called "The Perfect Rug".

    Echoplex:

Actual: "I built this place with broken parts. Just like they said."
Heard: "I built this place with broken pots. December's here."

    Running:

    Actual: "As good as blind."
    Heard: "As good as pie."

i didn't mishear this one; it's just something goofy i say to amuse my wife but it SURE sounds like he could be saying

"i don't eat anything at all" rather than "i don't need anything at all"

My 10 year old stepson was in the backseat while I had Came Back Haunted playing...

    Actual: "Came...back...haun-ted"
    What he heard: "Cave...man...cone-head"

    I now sing those lyrics.

Some of.these really blow my mind. '"take me if you want me" in TPD: this one really fucked me up as my first close friend dying of drug overdose happened in 97. I had to talk about the lyric with my parents, my psychiatrist even.
That one is like Mandela Effect territory for me.

Same.goes for even deeper: d'you know me? We think you do" (like a fractured personality.)

And I've been trying for years to understand why it says "not another reason not to continue" because it doesn't make sense but THAT'S WHAT IT SAID goddamn lolololl

Also @ultimatebdp : "Forty years ago in TEXAAAS!" wins the thread imho

I used to sing "I'm Afraid of Americans" wrong in the chorus:

Instead of: "I'm afraid of Americans, i'm afraid of the World..."
I used to sing: I'm afraid of Americans, i'm afraid of the WORST"

Not, because i misheard or anything, i just liked it that way (i also sing Bowie's version that way...)
I'm looking forward to sing it that way next month; when i watch them live again (i really hope they play it!)

Ayo, me too. Granted, I was 12.

Every mistaken lyric I hear from NIN has something to do with ass...

So what are you waiting for?
You got what you asked for
Did it fix what was wrong with you?
    Are you an Ass man?

First few times I heard HLAH :

    Head like a hole
    Placard your soul
    I'd rather die
    Than give you control

"Placarder" in french is a slang for "afficher (displaying)", so I thought maybe it works in english too. But it doesn't, no. Not at all.

"placard" really do sounds a lot like "black as" if you try to say it really quick with a terrible english accent though

To this day, my brain wants the word fraud instead of flawed in “my whole existence is flawed” in Closer.

This response applies to both posts, because I've only known of these misheard lyrics through ETS, and they also include the word ass in them, and now they're sometimes hard to "unhear".

Last - This isn't mental ass. This is for right now.

Reptile - Angels bleed from the touch of my tainted cold ass.

Physical (You're So) - I want your rough ass, baby.

Me - "Without you, It's not as much fun to pick up the Pizza's"

    EVERY.DAMN.TIME! Also i'm hungry.

"I'm sleeping in the tears you've made me cry"

I actually think that's what he should be saying and feel VERY strongly about this stance. It's a hill I'm willing to die on.

Someone way back in this thread (or was it on the old ETS?) had an amazing story about this exact mondegreen!

I've submitted my fair share of misheard lyrics from when I was a kid, but I just realized another one: for the longest time in The Perfect Drug I thought it was "My boss wants to say hello to you!" and was really confused about Trent's workplace environment.
