    Melvins

I've heard a lot about them, but never really looked into it. Well, they know how to gain fans. They released a free EP so I checked it out. Pretty damn good.

    Any fans here?

You can get the EP here.

Ha! I got that link from another forum and I'm listening to it right now. I'm not a die-hard Melvins fan, but I've always checked them out throughout the years. This is as solid as anything I've heard from them. One of these days I'm going to get around to filling in all the blanks.....

Huge huge Melvins fan over the years...but I don't like their recent stuff much, in fact I haven't loved a Melvins album in about a decade. Ever since they incorporated Big Business into the band I've found their music dull and formulaic. That's why I'm holding some hope for the Melvins Lite CD without them.
But Stoner Witch, Stag, Houdini, Ozma, The Bootlicker and Singles 1-12=all excellent.

I love Melvins! They just play whatever they fucking want and I love that. From their collaboration with Big Business to everything else, love it.

Hey Harry, if you dig the EP and are keen for some more Melvins, check out (A) Senile Animal. It's more similar to the EP than their old stuff. If you dig it too then I know you'll eventually find their old shit which is also awesome. Here's the first song from that album:

I like that new song. Reminds me of Revolve.
I've got a good feeling about this album: the absence of Big Business gets me excited.

Revolve rocks. They haven't aged well.

Big Business dudes rock. How can you not like this?

As a touring audio tech, all I can say is...I hope any crew they're taking with them is being well compensated. Don't get me wrong, the travel is one of the things that I love about my job...but that kind of work schedule can really fuck with you both physically and mentally.

Best of luck to everyone involved. Wish I could catch one of those shows!

More new music from Melvins this year?!

    Love it!

Edit: Should probably have mentioned that it's a different lineup (again), with original drummer Mike Dillard playing drums (hence the name of the EP 1983) and Dale playing Bass. At least I'm assuming the name of the EP is 1983.

I really like what these guys are putting out right now. the bride screamed murder got me back into the Melvins' sound and freak puke was awesome. This sounds just as good.

Shame I never managed to see them live. And they're coming here every year basically...

Going to see them on Thursday. They better be better than the last couple of Melvins shows I've seen: I am really hoping - now that Big Business are not in the band - that the Melvins can show a little of their former greatness. Last several times I've seen them in recent years they were totally phoning it in: Buzz Osborne looked bored out of his skull, and they were so boring.

Big Business is not in the band right now, and Trevor Dunn is their bassist. Here's some pictures I took at last night's show. I was right up front against the stage.

You got to be kidding me. I don't know if you saw them play Hung Bunny/Roman Dog Bird with the two drummers set up. It was insanity, and Coady Williams is one hell of a drummer, I don't know what you're talking about here. And Buzz looking bored out of his skull? Well, Buzz is not Aaron North. He usually stands there, moves around a little, and plays the songs.

By the way, the new lineup with Trevor Dunn is great. The Houdini songs sound great with the upright bass.

Saw them Friday in Vermont and last night in Boston. Both great shows, although I enjoyed Vermont more. Surprisingly the Boston crowd was a lot tamer than the Vermont crowd. And I was much closer in Vermont, right against the stage. I was one very tall person back in Boston, and there was also a guardrail between the crowd and the stage, which they didn't have in Vermont.

Melvins were good. Without Lame Business they are freed up to be Melvins again. Trevor Dunn was fun to watch.
But Tweak Bird blew them off the stage.

I'm in! That sounds absolutely great!

Too bad they didn't get Patton to do "in every dream home a heartache", though.

Sweet! I've been listening to a shit-ton of Melvins the past couple of weeks. They're one of those rare bands that I think actually get better with age. Their output over the last decade or so has been pretty damn solid.

Awesome. I enjoy some of their covers, especially the ones that are a little catchier than their own material, but played in that manic Melvins style: Candy-O and Goin Blind are two faves.

Been listening to a lot of Melvins lately, and appreciating in particular their mellow/ambient tracks. I really need to make a playlist of all their best mellow songs.

Here's what I'd love Melvins to do next: a rap metal record. But they never will...
