    Zola jesus

Once again, I'm astonished that there isnt an thread about her.

I just recieved my vinyl of Versions. the album where she redoes some of her best songs with the great JG Thirlwell (FOETUS) and a string quartet. its really beautiful

If you dont know her I suggest you start with tracks like

    Vessel

    and Hikikomori

    and Seekir

Here she performs at the Guggenheim with JG Thirlwell.

I hear ya about the gothling thing. I haven't been a fan of the goth thing for 10 years. At least.

Nika is pretty interesting tho. She doesn't attempt to identify with the "goth scene" per say. Because that scene is corny as hell.

Her music seems real to me and appeals to the side of me that goth appealed to back when I was a youngster.

She's dark and original. And doesn't walk around in black talking about how shitty everything is. It seems more like she is just a fan of the same stuff I was growing up. And obviously that translates into her music.

It took me a while to totally accept her. I think only because I didn't totally understand her. I knew I liked SOME of her stuff. But now I seek out her music wherever I go.

I'm going to see her and thirlwell in sf in September at the palace of fine arts. Super excited about that.

Seeing her with Thirlwell at Mountain Oasis, but hadn't had a chance to check anything out yet. Just a minute or so into that first video and I'm already pretty sure I'm going to have to check out the rest of her stuff. Thanks for kicking the thread off well, dude.

No problemo. I am really hoping a live album or even better a Live video of this tour surfaces.

I was just telling my dad about this show this morning, and telling him how I remember him and mom yelling at me "WTF are you listening to??" When I was listening to the FOETUS GASH album. Told about how he's a composer now, and I'm going to see him and Zola at Palace of Fine Arts in SF.

    We were cracking up.

Nika Roza Danilova AKA Zola Jesus

    Anyone into this wonderful artist?

She is five albums into her career and has also released a split album with Burial Hex, as well as a joint album with LA Vampires. Nika has also collaborated with Former Ghosts, Fucked Up, M83 and Orbital among others.

Zola Jesus dj set on KEXP last week, stream here https://www.mixcloud.com/kexp/kexp-p...th-zola-jesus/

Nika Roza Danilova, a.k.a. Zola Jesus, is a Wisconsin native and recent Pacific Northwest transplant that has released stunning operatic albums of dark, cinematic electro-pop on the Sacred Bones and Mute record labels over the past five years. She stopped by KEXP to piece together a rare DJ set for Midnight In A Perfect World and it's a thrilling, adventurous, visceral mix that boldly showcases her love of power electronics, punishing techno, enveloping noise, and classical opera in a seamless yet unpredictable fashion.

Well, the London show (Sat 7th Nov) was fucking epic. The sound was great and Nika was in fine voice.

Seeing her for the first time in September.

So this is a serious question: Is Jesus pronounced like the Christian savior or with a Hispanic pronounciation? I've never heard anyone say her stage name aloud and haven't done too much searching online to figure out the answer.

this is really good. Gonna finally dive into her material and download a bunch of stuff, as I've never really heard anything I dislike. Loved what she did with M83 a few years back.
