Quick update, she got worse over night and has been moved to a central london intensive care ward. They think she has an infection somewhere, on top of the chicken pox, and don't know where...today is going to be awful while i wait for news...

EDIT UPDATE: She isn't improving so they are getting specialists from the children's hospital to run down urgently. If she doesn't imporve in the next few hours they want to put her in an induced coma...she's 6 months old. This really isn't looking good...

My husband came out running out, and the cops and everybody else came. What a fucking night. Everyone was ok. The person that created the accident was an 80 year old woman *smh* Only my shoulders are sore for now, thank goodness. Staying home from work today, fuck that. Last thing I want to do is drive right now.

And! The cops messed up the accident report, they list 3 cars involved - but only wrote the lady name's and the car behind me twice - like I wasn't involved at all. So now I gotta call the police department and have them fix it.
Glad you’re ok! IMO, it should be mandatory for every person to have a driving test every 12 months. There are so many people who just shouldn’t be on the road.

Seriously, anyone that sees this post, watch at least the first 2 minutes of this. It’s fresh, recent footage to boot:

I know this because I dealt with it with my Mom, who gave up her car when she turned 80 (the car insurance rates GO THROUGH THE ROOF when you turn 75):

Illinois currently requires a road test at every license renewal for drivers starting at age 75. The renewal period is every 4 years for drivers between ages 75–80, every 2 years for drivers 81–86 years old, and every year for those 87 and older.

This is the worst year of my life. My dog Willow developed a nail infection not long into the pandemic which took a long time to fully diagnose after it didn't go away with regular treatment. Turned out to be a hardcore bacteria that could only be treated with one type of antibiotic. One of the possible side effects of that antibiotic is kidney damage, and Willow was one of the unlucky ones. I had to say goodbye to her at the beginning of October. It was very sudden, going from thinking the treatment was going to work, to realizing she was very sick, and then having to say goodbye. Which happened one week before the fifth anniversary of adopting her. At first I thought I could never get another dog again because I couldn't put myself through that pain again. After a couple weeks that changed into just missing having a dog around and I started looking again.

It took several weeks of looking, but then I found Nugget. I brought her home two weeks ago today. She was very different than Willow, but she was amazing. Full of energy and so happy and playful. These last two weeks were the first time I was happy since losing Willow. Today Nugget had surgery to be spayed. When I picked her up from the vet that the humane society I got her from wanted me to use for the surgery, she was alive, but not very responsive, and wouldn't walk. They claimed that wasn't unusual after surgery. By the time I got home with her, she was gone. I rushed her to my normal vet down the street from me and they confirmed it.

    Fuck this fucking shit year.

Thank you both. I'm just so sad and angry. It was hard enough losing my first dog in early October. And looking for a new dog where I live right now is pretty stressful, as you can't just go and visit dogs. Shelters and rescues mostly seem to require that you have an approved application first, so until you have that (and it takes a week and often a lot more to get them approved right now), you can't even meet dogs. I felt so incredibly lucky that I found Nugget after weeks of looking for the right dog. She was everything I look for in a dog and more. How could this happen again so soon? It's not fair.

I totally understand how you feel. I had 3 cats at the beginning of the pandemic, 1 of them passed away (it was expected - cancer), but then a second one passed away unexpectedly only a month later. My heart is still shattered to this day, and the 1 cat that is left is definitely lonely. I've been contemplating about getting a new cat so she can have a friend, but I'm just so torn.

You should get one if you feel you're ready. Even though it ended so quickly and poorly with Nugget, I don't regret getting her. She was so great. I miss both her and Willow a lot.

After all the insanity of losing both of my dogs in this last month and a half, would you all believe my roommates' dog got hit by a car yesterday? Thankfully she's going to be okay. But when I came home from work to the news yesterday I didn't have a lot of details yet, so I was pretty pissed off and anxious. Sounds like it was a pretty hard hit. She spent the night at an emergency vet. Had x-rays and an ultrasound. No broken bones or serious internal injuries, but she had some air in her chest cavity which they had to remove. She did well overnight and came home this morning. She's in a lot of pain and is having a hard time breathing as she's likely got a bruised lung or two (hell, she probably has a bruised everything), but she should heal up in a week or two.

Is 2020 over yet? I don't like this year.

A positive update, whilst she was knocking on the door of almost not making it (and a horrible 48hours of waiting) she thankfully improved and went on to make a full recovery (they think it was a mix of Chicken Pox and Covid!) a week later she was back home. So that's a fucking welcome plus for this year! Thank you all for the kind words.

You didn’t take him to the vet? It could be a blocked salivary gland, which is fixable but dangerous if you don’t get him in right away. He’s likely in a lot of pain. Why the delay in getting him to a vet? This is extremely urgent. I’d have had him in there in 5 minutes, melting my credit card balance.

took him to the local vet, they said it's cancer, gonna take him for a "second opinion" but I think I see where this is clearly gonna go, and it is fucking me up

At this point it's looking like when do we arrange the "putting down" operation
And, I'm pretty much not handling it well.

Yeah, get a second opinion, for sure! Did they biopsy it or it’s just based on the location and likelihood?

I wonder if this is why he hated the leash? Ugh. Jesus. How old is he?

Did they give you pain meds?
