No one sings better on drugs, the drugs just give you confidence.

Unless you're taking enough coke/whippets etc to numb your vocal chords in a special, secret way that improves singing

I don't know if he was putting effort into it because it was been filmed but from what I saw on BYIT Jeordie seemed pretty into it to me, not bored or phoning it in or anything. But I agree that he was a bit meh compared to lot of other people that have been part of the touring band.

I really think Capital G is a great track, and one of my favourites from Year Zero

Another song that I loved Aaron North playing much more than Robin was Somewhat Damaged. Aaron’s felt a lot heavier, Robin has that weird “higher pitched” tone to it that seems to neuter it a bit. It’s an angry, heavy song that needs to stay fucking angry, heavy.

I never hated the song Everything like a lot of people did, but I have really come to love it now. It’s totally like Joy Division, it goes back to Trent’s early influences, and it feels more vulnerable and honest than a lot of people give him credit for. I’m totally not trolling, I mean it sincerely, when I say that I could go for a whole album like this. People who think it’s upbeat haven’t spent enough time reflecting on it. I really like it a lot and I wish Trent would ignore all the critics and reclaim the song and play it live.

I really don't like Everything, but i, too, wish Trent would reclaim it. The reaction to it made me sort of sad for him.
Trent went so far as to say something along the lines of "I hope you think of me like you think of Bowie."
And db's catalogue is all over the place: he's got folk, he's got industrial rock, he's got experimental ambient stuff, he's got "plastic soul," he's got a grunge thing with Tin Machine, etc.
there are bowie albums I don't like much: Pinups and Tonight come to mind- but THAT'S OK. I'm sure that, to some people, they're the BEST ones.
Meanwhile, some of my favorite bowie albums consistently find themselves near the bottom of critical "worst to best" lists,.(with Outside and Heathen being 2 of my favorite albums by ANYONE, ever.)

So, I felt like HM (and Everything, especially,) was Trent trying out a new direction, much like the man who was, imho, his greatest influence.
And, it seemed like he got crucified for it.
I know what Trent SAID about it, that he didn't feel the way he did when he made HM, and that's understandable, but I think there's more to it than that.

Therefore, I want to see him do whatever the hell he wants, whether I like it or not. I don't want the man to feel like he's painted himself into a corner, creatively.

The intro scream to Everything is jarring at first, but what follows, and especially the outro, is pretty good, even touching. The short Strokes-like guitar melody and sound is also an outlier, but it blends well with the aggression of the rest of the middle of the track.

Almost like an IDLES track, could fit under the album title "joy as an act of resistance" of theirs.

Everything is absolutely awesome, and as mentioned above feels like a nice callback to Trent's influences with it's Punk and New Wave undertones.

    TRENT is Crystal Pepsi.

I've bought like at least a hundred bottles of that shit each time they did the limited reboot.

    I LOVE it.

I sort of agree with you.
Now, the instrumentals being your favorites, they aren't mine, but I understand where you're coming from.

And I think it's because some of us love, like, experimental music, and some of us don't.
You and i both love Geogaddi, for instance.

I've never heard it before, but far be it for me to claim ownership of it.

Then, I think you just invented it, unless, we're talking high synchronicity, and/or collective consciousness.

At any rate, that made my day.

I forgot how much I loved 34 Ghosts IV till all this Old Town Road got it in the news again. Although I prefer the second half of the song where the guitar cuts in (at least I assume it’s a guitar, you never know). Didn’t it either win or get nominated for an instrumental Grammy too?

    Wow, I don’t remember that.

What seperates 34 from the rest of Ghosts? I never thought too highly of it or that it stood out in any way. Not a huge fan of Ghosts but there’s definitely some cool moments, just never thought 34 was one of them. Pretty bland IMHO.

Yeah, I thought 31 Ghosts would’ve gotten nominated.

34 Ghosts IV is the longest track on the album, and it also goes through a couple different instrumental shifts as it progresses. It's not an obvious choice, but I can see why it would get nominated.

I sort of agree. Not that it's too different, but the piano that's added at the end is fucking brilliant.
