I read a lot of graphic novels this year as I couldn't keep my mind focused on real books so pretty pictures had to do it for me. And even then some of them were stinkers.

If you likes The Sisters Brothers movie - or book, I'm not going to pick a side - you might like "The Bastard" as it's by the same person.

"The Golem and the Jinni" is the best book I read this year, hands down. Brilliantly written and researched, the way it weaves its threads and pulls them together at the end? amazing.

"The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" was middle of the road, if that. It should have been better, especially if she had bothered to keep notes of what she'd already written. It fell into the Rise of Skywalker trap of giving too much service to fans and trying to connect things that really didn't need to be connected. And I deleted my spoiler sentence because who knows, someone might want to read it.

"Vanishing Vancouver" I'm surprised more than two people read the book this year - me and my wife - so huh. It's just a book of historical photos.

One year I had only two people read the same book as me and that stat has remained the one I find most interesting.
