    One-man rock bands

Can somebody recommend jack-of-all-trades, one-person-plays-all-the-instruments rock projects? I'm talking stuff like Ilan's The New Regime.

If you like this stuff, you should DEFINITELY check out Demians, the one-man project by Nicolas Chapel. There are Porcupine Tree-ish vibes, which led to Steven Wilson pushing the band by reviewing them and letting them open for PT concerts. The project is on an indefinite hiatus, sadly:

Of course, black metal is all about this, the most famous case being Burzum. And Dave Grohl performed all the instruments on the first Foo Fighters record.

    Any other suggestions?

My buddy Christian Bonner has a Stones/Bowie type vibe to his music and does most of it solo: http://soundcloud.com/christian-bonner

    Duuuude!

    Author and Punisher

This guy works as a mild mannered engineer who builts giant microscopes by day and then at night transforms into an industrial sludge overlord.

He builds all of his own instruments and operates them like you would heavy machinery. Go check out some youtube clips of him live. My band was set to play a show with him last year but who ever was working for him failed to secure all the planned dates. What a bummer that was, i tell ya. ANYWAY check him out. One man band.

Author & Punisher is great! I saw him open for Kayo Dot last year. His set was super intense and not what I was expecting at all. I hadn't heard of him prior to the show. He looked like a mad man up there.

Cloudkicker is another one people here might like - http://cloudkicker.bandcamp.com/ - It's all instrumental, some of it metal, some of it post-rock. It's all free on his bandcamp as well.

For lighter, poppier stuff, there's VAST. I think Gotye performs all of the stuff he doesn't sample.
Justin Broadrick records a lot of solo material.
