How far in advance do the CD shipments typically make it to the stores? As early as a week from release day? A few days before release day? Or simply sometime in the week of release day?
Anyone here with actual knowledge of all that?

It depends but a few days is quite typical to actual stores. Not sure about main warehouses but I imagine companies are getting better at keeping the lid closed. The Alice in Chains album didn't leak until a couple of days before release.

Yeah probably, I've worked in a music store, but it's been 6 years since and a lot has changed. Back then we use to get the new albums 1-2 weeks prior to their release date, in average that is. We usually got the shipments on Tuesdays and Fridays...Don't really know how it works now, the company I worked for has gone bankrupt anyway!
Ah the good memories of spending every dollar I earned at that job buying albums at that same store...*sigh*

I don't have a specific source, US stores typically get their stock a week before release, so I assume it's the same for other regions. I could be wrong, and I apologize if I am.

Fuck, stores are closing in 10 minutes otherwise I would have stopped by on my way into the city and ask someone. Not if I can have it, but like a true fan boy would: "is it there already? did you see it?"
EDIT: I actually imagine huge black crates with NIN logos to arrive at these records stores with handwritten instructions by Rob on how to handle the shippment. one can dream...
