ASMR - Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response

I have a very difficult time explaining what it is, but ASMR has made its way on Wikipedia. It is a form of relaxation I get, and the triggers sometimes even reach my spine or even the sides of my neck. It has even helped me go to sleep sometimes. The triggers can range from whispering, scratching and tapping.

There is also another explanation on the ASMR Videos website, and you can also find out more about ASMR on Facebook too.

There are also a lot of ASMR videos and accounts on YouTube as well, and it's usually best to use headphones whenever you're watching and/or listening to ASMR videos. I wouldn't know which actual videos to start with, but here are a few of my favorite users on YouTube that make ASMR videos.

I saw some of these videos via VICE mag, and I have to admit I thought it was a hoax intended to annoy me.

basically, the embedded video in that article had the exact opposite of "relaxing" me, it made me want to run screaming. I'm just fascinated with how this could relax you, while it makes me feel like someone is dragging their nails up a chalkboard. Still, I'm a masochist in the sense that I hunted down several other aspects of this kind of video on youtube.

Please consider me authentically curious here though. Must it be a female voice?

That youtube user "gentlevoice" really freaks me out. I listen to that and I honsetly want to scream "Please stop whispering!!!"
And still I think the whole thing is fascinating... you find this relaxing?

ASMR - Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response

Someone posted a few of these videos on POEtv, one of them was some girl whispering from a physics book.

Fetishes take all forms, I suppose.

It actually doesn't have to be a female voice or any voice at all. Sometimes it could just be done with certain sounds like tapping or scratching. I'd understand if it doesn't do anything to some, or even a lot of people though. I also expected it to be weird, creepy and annoying to some. And some people with ASMR also have different preferences or triggers. Some of them might like whispering, and some of them would rather have tapping and/or scratching.

When I find the right triggers, I actually do, since some ASMR videos work for me, while some actually don't. I end up daydreaming or falling asleep depending on how exhausted I am, and it has even helped me clear my mind.

I honestly don't get it and have knee-jerked by prematurely calling it total bullshit. Maybe I just need to read more about it.

I think I could get into this sort of thing if the drill sergeant from Full Metal Jacket made one of these soothing whisper videos.

Honestly it gives me the creeps, and my visceral reaction to it is so completely negative that I have to believe that there's people out there who get something out of it. I find it completely unsettling. When I first heard about this thing, I watched a video where someone was doing it to simulate the experience of getting your hair cut... so she included all these sound effects of scissors snipping while she made whispery small talk. Sent chills up my spine.

I'm going to try out some of this whispering shit on my wife next time she's trying to sleep and see how long it takes for her to stab me.

ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. To the common person, that can sound like a mouthful of unhelpful gibberish.
    Patronizing fucker.

So, I watched the video on the GentleWhipering channel and I can't say it really had the effect on me it mentioned in the Wikipedia article, but I did find it fairly relaxing.

and kind of sexy in a weird way
