Looks pretty awesome, until you realize the price tag will most likely be above $1,000.
I haven't looked at all the features but I haven't seen anything mind blowing that would justify this price.
They are obviously looking at stealing GoPro's market share. Ut at this kinda price, I don't know what they can achieve.

But yeah, GoPro cameras may be bulkier, but they're still cheaper, and the tech keeps getting smaller. So I'd still choose GoPro or something similar for less money.

its not just a camera. its a heads up display. they claim the price point will be below 1500.

as an apple fan... everything i've read about google glass leads me to believe that Google will win the next round. Who cares about an iWatch... this is the future.

As one who walks to work every day, I can see the appeal of not having to look down at your phone to read a text or navigate. If someone gave me a pair, I'd happily beta test them, but I bought a Honda Accord for $500 once, and I cannot justify spending three times that on a first generation personal HUD

I for one don't see the pressing need to have my own HUD. Unless it's going to show me how much ammo I have left or what my shields are lookin' like.

It really has no purpose other than to be fancy. "Hey Google glasses, tell me how to get somewhere. Yeah, I know I could have looked it up last night but I couldn't afford to check Google maps because I spent an obscene amount of money on your goggles instead of an internet connection."

and not to be negative, but wearing these things makes you a target for "kick my ass and steal my super expensive glasses" unless you exclusively wear them in a gated community.

These are all really shitty reasons for not pursuing this technology.

People using them while driving is a very good reason to not want these around. As for the others, not as much. But they are really great reasons not to spend $1500 on a 1st gen tech that will obviously be 30 times better at half the price once they work the bugs out in 2 years.

Obviously lots of pros and cons but i find this kind of technology exciting yet scary at the same time.

Say this became a very successful project though and ended up mainstream enough, Google could partner with many different corporations and industries to help solve some of these societal things, for example lets say they hook up with the auto industry, i could see a work around for using the glasses while in a vehicle so as not to cause distracted driving. It could be some sort of tech developed that can cancel out the use of the hud while the car is moving, like some kind of sensor or frequency thing equivalent to an automatic door motion sensor or something, this could be similar where if you're parked it will somehow register and the HUD will turn back on... start moving anywhere and it shuts off.

I also thought of something else, now there are more privacy heavy places than others whether in the work place or job site, places where industrial espionage could even be possible. So what if maybe this sensor thing could be put to use for situations like that, certain zones where people's privacy should be respected and upheld you could have the HUDs automatically turn off when entering these zones and wouldn't turn back on until you left them. It'd be like gaining and losing cell phone reception in a way.

Another thing i thought of for those of us that need corrective lenses in order to see, maybe a work around could be a partnership with that industry to develop compatible lenses and architecture for any and all prescriptions. It would end up being something where you could just go straight in to lenscrafters or any place like that and pick up Google Glasses completely tailored for you even with consideration for left and right dominant eyes etc.

So many kinda sci-fi thoughts buzzing around in my head because of this....and I know I'm just getting carried away but whatever lol

I'm sure they would be illegal to use while driving, like cell phones (in my part of the world).

I agree that most features are either found on a GoPro (the camera aspect) and the rest is just not very useful or at least achievable with an iPad for a lot cheaper.

I doubt the quality of the videos taken by the Glass. Look at screen captures 0:44 and 1:42. Looks pixelated as shit.

I did read that it's supposed to have bluetooth though as well so you can tether it to your phone's wireless internet service.

Like i was pondering earlier about the future I am sure it would eventually end up having a data plan available for it and the ability to get 4G or otherwise.

Yet those people to me just sound like they practically want to live in the bush completely cut off from the world.

True, the product runs the risk of turning people in to mindless zombies and cause social issues that smart phones already do.

Just have to use discretion and common decency like anything else so as not to be rude to the people you're with, not everyone who might be interested in these things is going to reduce themselves to ignoring the people right in front of them.

You will love Glass then. The price needs to come down, the quality up, and apps need to be created for it... but it has the potential. Watching the concepts and mockups for potential apps has gotten me pretty excited. The various shopping and cooking apps would be awesome (for instance).
