The Big Come Down
Underneath It All
Ripe with Decay
I might give this sequence a try and give it a listen to it at work tomorrow.
La Mer/ITV/Slipping Away - Me too
Thanks for sharing.
My mix had Adrift before La Mer
Mine too ! ( just search "Into the Void (Megamix) " on remix.nin.com for the ones interested )
I wan't my new NIN t-shirt. I wonder when they'll ship.
Anyone remember when the follow up to Downward Spiral was going to be a funk/hiphop record?
Collaboration with Ice Cube taught him ...things.
So I've been listening to YZ for the past day or two and I'm pleasantly surprised at how well it's held up over the years. Currently on The Great Destroyer and I forgot how awesome this song is. I am now slowly starting to build up excitement for the upcoming tour
TGD has grown on me. When it first came out I couldn't believe it. I just couldn't understand it, the kick drum sounded straight out of some happy hardcore, I didn't think it belonged in a NIN tune. I think I've musically matured a bit since then. However, I've never been able to listen to YZ as a coherent album. Perhaps due to the ARG and playing the leaked tracks much more often than the others, and having my emotional memory of them tied up in the excitement of the time. Also I feel a bit cheated that we hardly saw any YZ tracks live in the uk, particularly MYM and ITT. I had a lot doing on in 2007...
^ Great, great record. I still love everything about it even after all this time, potentially my favorite NIN record. I have fond memories of getting sucked into the world and the story, reading the ARG sites and following the discussions here. I still get excited when I listen to The Good Soldier, sounds so different from what we're used to from NIN, especially back then.
All the rumors for that album had some truth in them. It was said that it would have elements of hip-hop, trip-hop, drum&bass, funk, tons of electronics and no guitars. Trent ultimately added guitars everywhere, but you can notice many of the influences that Trent and others had been talking about for years regarding the new album.
I remember how Trent specifically said that his next album would be a mix of Prince and Aphex Twin, and nobody would like it. XD You can notice the funk in songs like ITV or WIE, but in my opinion the "Aphex Twin+Prince" track is "The Big Come Down".
just had a random thought. Since the music industry is still being re-shaped, has TR ever considered doing a track-at-a-time like work on one track, then put it out in low quality to preview and then sell it. Then get feedback and work on another track and so on a so forth.
Great idea. Trent puts the track out there, a third of the fans bitch about how it sounds nothing like *insert favorite album here*, a third of them praise the hell out of it without giving any specific thoughts on it, and the final third attempt to give some sort of advice, but everyone says different things and none of them can come to a consensus. Trent stops involving his fans in the song creation process after one song. The end.
i got into nin when broken came out, and i LOVE, i mean absolutely LOVE YZ.
I never understood why other people didn't.
and good god i love the drums on even deeper, eversonpoe, and yes it DOES have hip-hop elements.
these are random thoughts so it fits in the thread, right?
Anyone wanna comment on how liberally Kanye West is borrowing from the NIN playbook? It's being mentioned in most of the reviews of 'Yeezus'. It has to be pretty career affirming for TR to have someone that a lot of people consider to be THE pop artist of the era be so influenced by you.
The Great Destroyed blows my shit up every time.
