“Just turn the crank, and snap the plank, and boot the marble right down the chute, now watch it roll and hit the pole, and knock the ball in the rub-a-dub tub, which hits the man into the pan. The trap is set, here comes the net! Mouse trap, I guarantee, it’s the craziest trap you’ll ever see.”

That game was so fussy to set up... it quickly became a G.I. Joe "adventure" play set.

I would just set up different parts of the Rube Goldberg. It was damn hard to get the whole thing to work, but you could get PARTS of it to work. Liek, you could "fling the man into the pan" at least.

What's funny is that MOST of my friends had the game in the eighties, and i played WITH it, at home and elsewhere, at least 100 times.
But nowhere did we actually PLAY the boardgame.

The most we ever did was set the whole thing up, and try to get it to work. And it did, every great once in awhile. And it was fucking stunning.
Those lyrics, though. I thought of them yesterday for some reason.

"WHich flip the man/INTO THE PAN!"

I wonder if this is why Bill Watterson refuses interviews, so we can't see that he's really from the future.

huh. I think that works best with the vinyl strings because the metal ones might make things terrible for the balloon.

Also I need to send that to my guitar/banjo friend to make him cringe just a little.

Anyone remember four years ago when a baggage handler stole an airplane and took it for a joyride before ultimately crashing it into an island? They finally released footage of how he stole the plane for the first time.

I do recall that because the local air squadron was scrambled and was told to get to Seattle asap.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018..._Q400_incident

In response, two McDonnell Douglas F-15C Eagles of the Oregon Air National Guard's 142nd Fighter Wing under the command of NORAD[10] were scrambled at around 20:15 local time[11] from Portland Air National Guard Base to intercept it. Both were armed with AIM-9 Sidewinder and AIM-120 AMRAAMair-to-air missiles[12] and went supersonic, generating sonic booms on the way to the Puget Sound area.
My office looks out towards PDX so every time they do training I can see and hear them take off. Just two days ago they did vertical - as in go straight up perpendicular to the ground - take offs and it was loud.

Edit: OK. We're doing Texas/southern us vs Australia. I'll have a a hard time topping this, though.

But since I don't expect you to differentiate Texas from, say, Alabama or Louisiana, don't get mad if what comes next isn't from your neck of the gloom.

@Erneuert was this you? Some people from NSW said it looked like you, in the Outback, after you'd scooped a bunch of Fosters.
(Fosters means Beer, in Australian, for the uninitiated).

Btw. I'm not so sure that guy's drunk. I THINK that's just "how he is."

I've met people like that, no shit. Methamphetamine might be involved, but it might NOT, either.
