Another way of looking at the differences:

    1. Uncoiled Commentary from Danny Hyde - Uncoiled Extended
    2. Gave Up (Open My Eyes) - both
    3. Closer (Unrecalled) - both
    4. The Downward Spiral (A Gilded Sickness) - both
    5. Eraser (Reduction) - both
    6. Eraser (Baby Alarm Remix) - Recoiled
    7. Closer (Demo) - Uncoiled Extended
    8. Gave Up Remix Commentary from Danny Hyde - Uncoiled Extended
    9. Gave Up (Film Mix) - Uncoiled
    10. Gave Up (Coldcutter) - Uncoiled
    11. Gave Up (In Your Face) - Uncoiled
    12. Gave Up (Full mix) - Uncoiled
    13. Gave Up (Full mix+) - Uncoiled
    14. Gave Up (More Perc) - Uncoiled
    15. Gave Up (More Perc No Bass) - Uncoiled

I hope I got that right as it's 3:28 AM and I'm dead tired.

I would like to point out that Uncoiled has an alternate cover with the early title, different colors and different text placement.

    Edit#2:
    Recoiled had something similar too:

Some crazy stuff right there. ^

Thanks, @Ryan ! My apologies for not checking NIN Wiki before asking. Somehow despite listening to the download the moment it came out/ordering the CD the moment that came out, I never even noticed the name difference. Ha.

    Trivia time:

    - The Recoiled rope is actually v2. v1 was the rope used for The Downward Spiral Live (extra trivia, I left a big fat wrong link on the back cover of TDSL on purpose to see if it will pop on ebay like that. It did.)
    - The Recoiled rope is ~24" long
    - The TDSL rope is ~23" long
    - Both ropes were cut from the same rope I used to hold one of my folding desks during transport from my old place to my new place but with huge time intervals between
    - I used a different process to age the Recoiled rope in order to give it a more "used" look
    - For Uncoiled I used a 6MP camera (Kodak Easyshare c913) + custom lenses
    - For Recoiled I used a 20MP camera (Nikon Coolpix L28) + custom lenses

Personally the Baby Alarm Remix is my fave of the lot so it's quite interesting (to me) that it was merely stumbled upon after the whole Uncoiled project, happenstance, and had the commercial project not taken off we might never have heard it.

Based on the fact that we paid nearly $50 for this limited edition vinyl, I want them to make right on the poor quality....let's show them this thread and get the ball rolling

Mine said Promo on the shipping label too - isn't that just so either they or the consumer wouldn't have to pay any customs fees?

I thought that was just referencing the post cards. Everything else is itemized

yeah, you're probably right haha. Somehow I completely ignored the fact that it has the CD/vinyl listed above that.

    Colored Vinyl Pressing Problem

I see there are a lot of posts about problems with the colored vinyl pressing. I just listened to mine last night and gave up at the end of first side because the audio was so terrible (the first track or two seemed okay). I looked at the vinyl and there appear to be little pits in the vinyl in the inner portion of the disc and some circular abrasions.

Has anyone received a good copy of the colored vinyl? Has Cold Spring made any statement about the problem? Sent them an email last night but haven't received a reply yet.

I've made a thread in hopes that we can document the issues with this release. Please post in there so Justin @ coldspring can have a list of people with known issues....

Here is the response I got from him today:

Sorry to hear you have a faulty copy of the RECOILED, though the vast majority are fine, it seems there`s tiny batch of faulty copies. Obviously we couldn`t play every copy (especially as they`re sealed), but we are collecting all reports of faulty copies to report to the factory. As vinyl is never flawless (especially `special` colours like this), we had a few over-pressed in case a situation like this happens.

I`ll be back in touch in the next few days, and will arrange you being sent a replacement.

Thanks, and apologies for the inconvenience.

Aren't you supposed to return the copy you're unhappy with, then?

As far as the issue of rights to the music goes, im sure they asked TR and he probably told them to leave his name off of it because it would get Interscope involved.

For those who ordered: the picture disc now ships 1st August not 30th June according to Cold Spring's website...no mention of why there's yet another delay though.

Justin is blaming RSD2014 on the delays with the picture disc/replacements which is total BS to me

Why? It's a common complaint from indies that the pressing plants are dedicated to rsd

I think he's using that as a crutch at this point....my guess is that they're still running into quality issues

the "picture disc" is almost literally that. It appears to be clear vinyl with a two-sided paper print sandwiched in the middle. Not exactly what I assumed when I saw the description and punched in the payment.

That's what a picture disc is, and that's why someone who is after audio quality should never, ever, go for the picture disc.

agreed, and the underlying message was this thing is not very high quality as a piece of memorabilia either. A good "picture disc" will either be molded with color or give the illusion that it is. This one doesn't.

Just wanted to quickly throw in my experience:

Original pressing splatter vinyl: extremely noisy, pops rampant especially on second half of each side, practically unlistenable.
Replacement splatter pressing: Improved, but still surprisingly noisy in the latter halves of each side.
Picture Disc: Dramatically improved pressing, not sure I heard any pops through the whole thing.

That's useful stuff to know, actually. Just goes to show that there's theory, and then there's practice!
