The Ivory Tower - grad school and beyond

I'm killing time before 2.5 hours of meetings with my various advisors and thought I'd see who else is subjecting themselves to the joys of academia.

I'm a little over two years into a PhD in computational neuroscience. Before that I did a master's in Bioinformatics, in which I managed to feature Year Zero related imagery in my thesis. In general, I try to sneak NIN-related materials into my presentations/papers when possible

Hahaha. Well this is the thread for me: just finished a PhD in Comparative Literature - graduated in September after 8 years. Now doing a one-year teaching postdoc at the same institution and currently on the academic "job market." I taught a class on music and literature last summer, and have been doing scholarly writing on music-related subjects: I recently completed a journal article on industrial black metal, and a book chapter on Rammstein and Laibach - both out soon.

I graduated already but for people who are still in graduate school I recommend PHD Comics for some good time wasting.

Nice! Critical academic analyses of contemporary music are usually fun. My brother-in-law did a study looking at Eminem and masculinity.

I've enjoyed PhD Comics for a long time. The frequency of updates and adherence to story arcs have really fallen off as he's been branching out into more things it seems.
