The most recent musical purchases thread

Scanned through the 18 pg's, didn't see anything so here it goes! This goes out to consumers of music in any capacity! Digital, Cd, Vinyl, Cassettes, 8-tracks, whatever! I love digging through bins looking for cool stuff, or checking out ebay, etc. I also love hearing stories about people stumbling onto awesome finds! I'll start! My latest record purchases were: The Supremes, Holland - Dozier - Holland on 12" vinyl Rage Against The Machine - No Shelter, Guerrilla Radio, Freedom, Bombtrack, Bulls on Parade, Bullet in the Head, and Testify. All Promo's!

I unexpectedly had to get a new car on a cross-country trip and it didn't have an AUX port. Best Buy, Amarillo, TX, passing through. It felt like I was in the 90s, due to some of the selection paired with the act of buying these new CDs in which I wasn't really familiar with (which I've not done in "forever"). Not to mention I used to live in the Amarillo area in the early 90s!

My most recent music purchase was a digital download of the new album from Castratii, titled Eora. I basically waited until midnight to buy it because the pre-release singles were so good.

I found out about these guys through The Duke Spirit, who mentioned the album in their newsletter, because they share a singer: the lovely, awesome Liela Moss (who happens to be featured on the forthcoming score for Lawless by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis)!

just bought the vinyl 10" single for Varud by Sigur Ros. Pretty nifty... limited to 1500 copies, and it plays backwards from the center of the record...

I bought Aphex Twin's Ventolin double EP (as MP3s — I have a CD copy of the whole thing stashed away somewhere at my parents' place) and an electronic music retrospective from bleep.com — but before that I got a 2-disc "collector's edition" of City to City by Gerry Rafferty and the Velvet Underground's reunion show Velvet Redux on DVD from Amazon. I also bit the bullet and hit "complete my album" for The Who's Thirty Years of Maximum R&B on iTunes.

    Received as gifts:

    • InversePhase - Pretty Eight Machine (thanks InversePhase!)
    • The Cure - The Top (Deluxe) (thanks Brother!)

I haven't actually bought any music for a while, but I think the last thing I bought was Foo Fighters — Wasting Light.

How is that, by the way? Worth it?

I've been biding my time for the Fragile re-release and/or HTDA and thus not splashing out, but I think it's time to abandon that policy.

I dont think i have actually bought a record/C.D since Year Zero came out in March 2007. That was only out of devotion. thats a long time...Before that it was probably With Teeth. Stopped buying albums about 10 years ago.

used to buy vinyl for the record sleeves. Some records with stunning artwork from the 1970s and 80s. Roxy Music, Storm Thorgerson design, 4AD, Factory records stuff... But stopped. I dont DJ so i just dont see the point...im not really a hoarder type person!

I just utterly rinse Soulseek...the only time i still feel slightly guilty is when its a new band. But its not my fault the system is fucked.
Just have an attitude that my money can go on more important things in my life, if people want to collect that's cool too.

Somewhat relevant but how much can the average new Indie bands in 2012 expect to make from physical sales??
Back in the 90s I depended on crackly mixtapes, had to record of the radio all the time, it would have been biggest fantasy to find a place where all music was free.

Most bands I purchase, I buy from directly. or from their small label. it makes a huge difference to them. Bands on large labels not so much. but who cares about them...

I actually haven't had time to get through all of it, yet. There is a LOT on offer.

To everyone saying "why would you buy music, that's dumb, use the internet"... you're in the wrong thread. Don't get me wrong — I torrent OODLES of shit too, but when I feel strongly enough about supporting the artist, and the shopping experience is pleasant, I always buy. That usually means I don't spend much time in brick-and-mortar stores anymore.

Californication season 1,2 and 3 soundtracks, The Joy Formidable - The Big Roar and Fink - Perfect Darkness. I BOUGHT these, there's loads I haven't...

Here's a bit of Fink who is awesome and I am looking forward to seeing them live with my favourite rock violinist Erica Nockalls (the Wonder Stuff) in November.

Got the latest Rush album on Amazon MP3 for a dollar, and The Doors' L.A. Woman 40th anniverary reissue for 1.99. It's helpful to watch their Twitter account for their flash sales.
