Oh man! I forgot about Give Me It! That first night in Chicago was fucking magical. I'm just bummed they didn't do Piggy in the Mirror. It's one of my favorites from The Top and from The Cure in general. But it was super cool when Robert pulled out Bananafishbones for their Riot Fest set. So, it seems like he's been trying to show that album some love lately. I think he finally sees it's not as bad as he thought it was.

Top was definitely an extension of the stuff he was doing with Severin and The Glove...I think he even said a few Top songs started out as Glove songs (Dressing Up, possibly Caterpillar) but he dug them so much, he made them Cure songs....

i think that trent should sign the cure to nothing records for a new record. lot of hardcore cure fans disagree but i think it would be a perfect home for robert. he would get the respect & attention he deserves. also, a bit of input from trent & atticus on recording a new record would most likely be a very good thing.

sorry. whatever the entity that trent releases stuff on now. i'm not too anal retentive about stuff like that as in the end it doesn't matter really anyway.

i could be definitely be wrong but i thought trent had his own thing & he licenses stuff out to distributors. i think 1 of the trilogy was put out on cd by universal & 2 on capitol. at this point, capitol might be owned by universal too. things change. i was in the business for 25 years but have been out of it for over 10 years. i worked in distribution for a few companies. of course the internet pretty much killed what i was doing. i held on longer than most. at the height of it (the grunge years for me) i worked for a large retailer in the northwest. we had over 100 stores, some of which had full fledged record stores in them. i was doing purchasing for them. at the end, i worked for a smaller distributor. we did a lot of business in alaska & i also had racks in truck stops. a proud moment: during david bowie's reality tour there was a video on his website of the band at a truck stop in the middle of nowhere montana. david was going through my rack (i picked the selection) & commented on how good the titles were.

trent's label is the null corporation. i would guess he has a manufacture & distribute deal with capitol. trent's obviously a very intelligent guy. this way he owns the masters & rights after the contract expires. most likely he owns the publishing, too. it's the smart way to do it.

I'm finally giving Bloodflowers a listen to and so far I'm loving what I'm hearing - just one question - according to Wikipedia there was a online only bonus track called Spilt Milk. Does anyone know where to get that in decent quality? :/

By online only, I'm pretty sure they mean Napster because that's the only place I ever remember seeing that song? So I'd be surprised if it was ever better quality than a 192kbps file unfortunately.

Ahh bummer. That’s what I thought especially given the release date. Was just hoping some of you guys might have stumbled onto a better version somehow haha
hopefully Bloodflowers gets the reissue treatment with that song?

Gave the self titled album a listen - I love it. The Promise is one of my favourite songs ever now.

The 5 or 6 B sides from that album are even better than half the songs on that record as well. The B sides are much heavier and darker. App Robinson wanted all those B sides ON the album, but Robert insisted on having half the album be dark and half the album be the poppy songs

Surprised there's never been a studio release of 'A Boy I Never Knew'. Such a beautiful song. Would've been perfect on either S/T or 4:13 Dream.

When I would go to the bar with guys after work many years ago, I would always play that song on the jukebox around last call time. Always seemed like a great song to end the night on, even if no one else in the place appreciated it lol

Yes! Some people think the self titled isn't all that great and while it doesn't match their best stuff, it's a great record. I fell in love with it too the first time I heard it.

I'm thinking about putting together a version of 4:13 Dream with all the b-sides just out of curiosity - any suggestions on where to place the bsides within the rest of the album songs?

If I were to get into The Cure, where should I start? I recently just got into The Smiths, and I've wanted to try to get into The Cure and don't know where to start. Any suggestions?

Disintegration is one of their most popular/well known, but it also happens to be one of their best. Definitely start there.

Disintegration is definitely a great entryway. It's a perfect mix of "doom & gloom" and pop, so whichever you prefer you can trail off in either extreme from there. But that's arguably their masterpiece.

After that, honestly just starting from the beginning might be a good method, too. There's a natural progression of increasingly morose albums before going into psychedelic and pop goals. Wish is just them being a great alt rock band. There's really an album for just about every mood and I promise you won't get bored exploring their discography!

Start with Pornography. After that you will either embrace the band for all its brilliance or run away screaming

I'd say Disintegration or Head on the Door would be a good start. After that, either starting from the beginning or checking out one of their greatest hits albums wouldn't be bad. My choice would be Standing on the Beach - it has a great mix of their early singles and their more popular hits.

Better late than never? The Cure are set to make their first trip to South Africa in 2019.

March 16 - Festival Lawns / Carnival City / Johannesburg
March 21 - Kenilworth Race Course / Cape Town

Excited to see that they will be touring, I was hoping for some actual headlining tour news, not festivals... in Europe. I wonder if I'll ever get to see them preform .
