I hope they do; and Radiohead too for that matter. It's like an invasion of the Brits this year, minus Stevie and Janet.

Roger says if they perform, it'll likely be just the current lineup:

i think robert does care, just isn't letting on. he has a huge sentimental streak. don't think radiohead are going to show but anyone up for a cure/roxy music jam? maybe with brian eno?!

I find it hard to believe anything that comes out of that man's mouth/keyboard.

The straw(s) that broke the camel’s back for me was, well...

    1) “Reflections” shows DVD/Blu-ray release
    2) “Reflections” only supposed to be two shows in Sydney, then more made
    3) DVD/BR re-releases of “Show,” “In Orange,” etc.
    4) 2014(!) announcement for 4:14 Scream and 4:26 Dream: https://www.stereogum.com/1672931/robert-smith-clarifies-unenthusiastic-414-scream-comments/news%3famp=1

While I've been through this loop a lot over the course of the 32 years I've been a fan, this time, Roger said they were going into the studio, and not just Robert. So I'm much more optimistic. Of course, it could get shelved like the stuff hinted at being recorded in 2008. Roger was also the one hinting at some North America dates. I'm all over that, of course. This means I'll be throwing my time and money into seeing them as much as I can, much like I did with NIN. (There was some talk that VNV would come back here next year too, so I've got to save some money for them, too.) Whatever the case, I'm feeling much more certain about these plans this year than I was last year.

Is there any sort of general agreement as to which are, say the top 10 best cure live performances?

I'm trying to get a few boots and while I am somewhat familiar with the studio recordings i have to admit I lack greatly live wise...

I wouldn't know where to start, theres so many! The official live releases are generally good, although honestly I don't like "trilogy" much, and it's worth comparing and contrasting the original "entreat" and "entreat plus". "festival" is pretty weird, with all the re arranging to play keyboard parts on guitars, but it's somehow still good, just not definitive.

The Bloodflowers part of Trilogy is pretty amazing (not to mention perhaps the best renditions of If Only Tonight and The Kiss in the encore), but yeah something doesn't sound right with the Disintegration set. I think Robert switched to using Schecter guitars at that point, and either the Hellcat VI is not comparable to the Fender Bass VI he had been using for the majority of the band's career up to that point. Or the mixing just isn't right.

There's way too many bootlegs to count, but if you can find a good quality one from the Dream Tour (2000), you'll have a good time. That was an amazing tour.

most official cure live recordings have yet to get it 100% right.

concert had a killer setlist, and some absolutely powerful versions of 'killing an arab' and '10:15,' but overall, i felt there were some issues with how the drums sound and how some of the music felt thin, most likely due to the lineup at the time (i love the records from that era, for extra context). trilogy is AMAZING on the first and third disc, but agree that disintegration doesn't cut in the same way, and has a few moments that sound...off. festival is weird, as has already been mentioned (i even felt iffy on the tour- the guitar material thrived and the synth material - well, why bother? really felt out of place and songs like 'the walk' which are huge favorites sounded absolutely horrible on this tour). show has its moments but the CD release is a bit too hits-heavy. try the VHS version for a better overall picture. i kinda find entreat to be boring, even though of course the source material is aces. play out has some cool live material, but not enough to really get excited about, but boy do i love some of those early, more cutting versions of wish trax. i'm pretty sure i listened to five swing live and those live re-recordings for itunes all of once.

the best two, imo, are in orange and paris. the former is a flawless run of the strongest material in their career, not a single dud in the set and is a real treat to watch. paris has a track or two i'm not wild about (i don't love their version of 'charlotte' on this disc, though it's one of my top ten cure songs), but the record comes out of the gate swinging, with some definitive versions of earlier material that go straight for the throat. if i'm listening to one on headphones paris is usually my go-to.

despite all this overanalyzing, the cure are by far one of the best live bands i've ever seen, in both terms of quality and overall setlist, blending the hits with the deep-as-fuck cuts, and doing it all with good energy and great sound. i'm sure each of these tours were amazing to be in the room for. maybe i just don't like live records? no, i KNOW i don't love live records, but it's been an interesting relationship with these discs over the years...

There is like 900000 audio boots and SBDs out there and the official live albums are all shit (the audio ones)
Depends what era of the band you dig...81 Werchter is one of their most legendary shows. 82 Paris is the perfect Pornography era boot. 84 London is the perfect Top boot. 85 Cleveland is the best Head On the Door era show. The 87 shows were very heavy on the Kiss Me album. 90 Glastonbury is epic....Theres some SBDs from the 96 tour but those setlists were very hits heavy and not as many deep cuts...98 shows were fucked because RS was drunk every show on the tour. 2000-2002 era had more darker songs/deeper cuts...04/05 were heavy on the self titled album but mixed it with a lot of deeper cuts at some shows and greatest hits on the others....Of course theres nothing from the Reflections era shows (audio or video) and the only SBD from 89 is the official album Entreat and some other boot which just has random songs scattered about

As for vids.....80 Netherlands is cool as hell. Lot of pro shots from Top the tour in 84 which are sick. Orange (86 France) is probably the coolest pro shot of theirs...Theres 9 million pro shots post 92..of course the greatest tour ever (Disintegration 89) there is nothing from

Not a bootleg but I enjoy Entreat Plus. CD came out with the 3 disc Disintegration package. It's a warped personal thing for me. I've said this before but for me The Fragile is to the end of the 90s what Disintegration was to the end of the 80s. 2 of my all time favorite records. As for bootlegs, there's so much great stuff out there including some incredible stuff that's not widely circulated. I could say more but then I'd have to....haha.

    Seconded.

I used to have a cassette copy of Concert that had a whole bunch of (mostly rough sounding) outtakes and "curiosities" on the B-side. Many of those recordings were made available on the various album remasters that came out about a decade ago. But I think there were some that have only remained on that original tape.

In Orange and Show videos are both epic and I'm a little dumbfounded and unhappy that it's just about 2019 and there's still no DVD release of either of those.

Holy Mountain finally restocked their Cure designs, so was able to cop all three. I've got a few things from them and it's super high quality, no Society6 type bullshit.

all of the recordings are available on the remasters, you just have to piece them all together from the bonus discs!

This is great news if it materialises. Having a professional release of Burn live would be awesome. And the live arrangement of arab. Also that performance of "if only..." was ace. It was an amazing gig all round

I've never really explored the live cuts on the second discs.

That's good to know, I don't know what I did with that tape nor do I have any way of playing it anymore! I remember that All Mine into Forever on the cassette being pretty epic.
