You guys do realize that the band has been signed to a major record label since the beginning, right? And that they've played big, corporate-sponsored festivals in the past, right?

Call it hypocrisy if you must, but it's nothing new.

I hate having to constantly debunk AEG/Phillip Anschultz' role in anything to do with Coachella other than owning Goldenvoice (who are the people that put the event on, specifically a guy by the name of Paul Tollett), so I'm giving up but I'll just say that AEG has owned Goldenvoice since 2001, back when it was still cool to like Coachella, and well before the last time Rage played the fest in 2007.

It's good to be woke, though.

It's changed, the whole industry is different now. Even Coachella when it started out wasn't what it is now. It sells out before people even know who's playing. I'm not calling it a money-grab even, but if it's the way they "come back" it feels like it could have gone a different route.

But whatever... At least Tom Morello told Paul Ryan to fuck off when he said they were one of his favorite bands.

re: Rage playing Coachella, one of their biggest fans and crucial videographer of the hardcore scene Sonny/Hate5Six had a long thread about it...

Three decades of the weapon of sound above ground. When rage against the machine arrived on the scene, right-wing groups like PMRC feared what their music would do to young kids. Imagine taking a 10 year old in 1996 and locking him in a windowless room with nothing but hundreds of live RATM VHS recordings. What came out of that room 10-20 years later was me. I am one of those kids. And I am better for it. I grew up in white suburbia ashamed of my brown skin and feeling like I had no place in this society. Then I read Zack's words, studied every single one of his speeches, and saw the example he set. I found myself, my identity, my fucking voice, because of him and rage. They taught me how to survive daily acts of racism I've experienced my entire life. They helped me connect with my big brother and recently my sister who finally understands their message. Finite words will never convey what I feel so viscerally. The trajectory of my life and how I choose to wield it is wholly because of rage. Save me your tired 3 decade old concerns about their intent. Their decision to play Coachella isn't out of touch, it's textbook. They are hijacking that stage and every phone pointed at them to disseminate a very targeted message directed at the very people who need to hear it, much like how they hijacked the radio and MTV to reach me in my home when I was desperately trying to escape that room. To say they never changed anything is to say I've amounted to nothing, and I will reject that with infinite fury until I draw my last fucking breath.

Zack sure. The other 3? Highly doubt it.

Can you really call it hijacking when you're being paid an (assumed) ungodly sum of money to show up?

Now all I can think about is if they kept it a secret and they DID end up reforming and hijacking/kicking off someone else last minute, but yet it was planned all along, just not to the public. Damn.
    Missed Opportunity.

The idea that Coachella is any worse than anything else they've signed to is either disingenuous or uninformed, they were signed to a major label which used third world labour and had connections to weapons companies. So they've always been subverting the mainstream, or they've always been hypocrites - take your pick. I always figured it was a form of entryism TBH. They do seem like they mean it

It's a hyperbolic statement (the whole thing), but I agree with the overall sentiment. RATM (Zach way more than the others like you said @SpaceSuicide) use big platforms to get their message out. Now, why he/they clearly have a message they want to get out but go dormant for such long periods of time is another question. I'm assuming Zach's family life is a major factor.

Doesn't look like that site allows hotlinking directly to their images. This link should work better though:

    Update from theprp

    Update: November 25th, 2019 03:34 AM:
It’s now being reported by Wall Of Sound that the below image of what appeared to be an admat for a 2020 world tour from Rage Against The Machine has confirmed to have been a fake created by an Australian individual. Said person issued a statement to the publication revealing they set out to troll with the image.

Yeah, if they play Riot Fest (which would be a PERFECT fit, BTW), it'll be a dream and a no-brainer for me. I think I'd still rather see them play a headlining show rather than a festival, but there's likely to be several other bands I'd be interested in. I know the tour dates posted in the link above were just some Australian fan trolling, but RATM playing RiotFest is not out of the realm of possibilities. Here's hoping there's at least some truth to them playing a full tour and not just the already announced 5 shows because it'll be next to impossible to get tickets...

Morello, maybe. He's done an awful lot to turn a quick buck for the last several years, but Zack not so much. Most of the reason he left was to focus on his activism and you don't see him constantly coming up with multiple new projects full of merch opportunities. I keep wondering what they had to do to get him to agree to do this. I don't believe it was for a paycheck.

I guess the four of them had to agree to sign to a major label back in the day right? Not so "against the machine" as they pretend to be.

All that while supporting dictators, terrorists and corrupts all over South America. Socialism (and mysery, suffering and death) for you, major label money for me. Pathetic.

I understand teenagers liking them. Adults who buy their crap are idiots.

    Audioslave were cool though.

I always thought it was hilarious they would have all these political songs singing about apartheid or whatever the fuck and 95% of their fans were just drunk jock Limp Bizkit bros who wanted to jump around and never paid any attention to the lyrics lmao

Zacks hardcore band Inside Out were 10 times the bad Rage ever were

Roswell. Low blow making fun of the deceased Cornell.....If I said something like that on here, I would be getting a "time out"

what dictators do they back & in those theatres where this is happening, can we honestly say that the west offered a better deal. You have to ask what drove people towards more extreme forms of government. Chances are it wasn't decent pay and civil rights. So even if their solutions are shit, their criticisms are valid.

I would vote conservative for the rest of my life if the cultists of the right would ringfence common decency
