    V/h/s

Although the "found video" genre is getting a little stale, this movie, "V/H/S," looks interesting. It seems similar to a movie that never got wide release, "The Poughkeepsie Tapes." However, V/H/S tells 6 different stories, with 6 different directors. I look forward to seeing this, especially since it will be previewed "On-Demand" 8/31.Trailer: Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/#!/VHSfilm

I just saw the trailer for this yesterday, and it looks like it could be a really fun movie to watch. I was hoping we'd get a new horror movie this fall (since Paranormal Activity 3 SUCKED IMO), and this looks to be worthy successor.

Yes it sure did. And unfortunately I will be going to see PA4 to see how far down the rabbit hole of awfulness this series can go. I am a glutton for punishment.

I've been following V/H/S news for a long time now and I'm super psyched to finally get a chance to see it. I'm not even going to watch the trailer because I want to go into it totally blind, besides knowing the premise. What's with the On Demand thing? Who is it being distributed by?

On Demand is a service provided by most Cable, and Satellite, television providers in which a customer pays to watch a given movie/show. It's similar to paying to stream one movie on your television set. The movie, itself, is being distributed by Magnolia Pictures. If you don't have access to On Demand, it will be playing in theaters beginning October 5th.

Sadly, so will I. Maybe. If V/H/S is as good as the trailer looks, I will gladly forget PA4 is coming out around the same time. I know you want to go in blind, but the trailer is better and "scarier" than some movies I've seen.

Agree, the trailer was pretty scary.

I really like surprises, and these guys already served up quite a few of those in this 2 minute trailer. By the time you figure it'll go in a snuff film direction something creepy pops up with flying kitchen stuff and the bloody hand prints... Looks like a fun ride!

Exactly. There were a lot of moments in the trailer that were pretty creepy, I can't imagine what they haven't shown us that we'll see in the film.

So I managed to download a VOD rip of this and, well, I was so on edge in the first half hour alone that I was seriously reconsidering watching it at all. It gets a little more fun and a little less scary as the movie goes on, though, so I did finish it. Totally worth it. I'm definitely going to bring this along on Halloween this year to watch with friends.

I just watched it, via Itunes. You can also rent it via satellite/cable television "In-Demand." Overall, I thought it was entertaining, but, the vignettes had very loose/skeletal "plots." There were definitely creepy moments.

    SPOILERS ahead.

Spoiler: It was a fun movie. Still, most of the segments ended in a somewhat underwhelming way. The one with the alien/ghost kids took a terrible turn for the worse when it tried to pull off some kind of twist that made no sense.

Also, the one about the married couple was full of holes. If the wife is plotting with her lesbian lover to kill off her husband (lol), wouldn't pushing him into the grand canyon be a better (and much less suspicious) plan than cutting his head off in a hotel room. And why the hell would she film it at all?

My favorite bits were the first part about the succubus "I like you" demon girl, and the last one about the haunted house... mainly because I like haunted house stuff.

    I liked it I guess.

I am getting a chance to see this in a local theater in a few weeks. Really excited to rewatch it in that kind of setting. I really dug the first and last segments the most, and the overlaying segment tieing it all together. I wish some of the segments went a little further or ended with more oomph. Overall I really dug it, and am stoked to see it in full theater setting instead of my crappy TV in my basement from a mediocre torrent, plus seeing it with different people than I saw it with the first time, so I get to see their reactions, which is always fun.

i just watched this the other night... as a horror junkie and otherwise new movie skeptic, i had high hopes for this after reading a series of positive reviews. i found it to be completely horrible. just deplorable characters, twists that made no sense, and a ton of flat moments for me. absolutely hated it.

I loved most of the stories except for the killer in the woods. The demon chick story was pretty cool I thought.

Sequel will be released on July 13, 2013.

i was on board for the demon chick aspect... but not for all the date rapes, the whole amateur porn/grabbing women vibe at the beginning, etc.. i know people like this actually exist, but wasn't really up for dealing with it as entertainment. it was like all of the worst elements of humanity wrapped into one grotesque snuff film. blah.

I'm still meaning to check this one out. Most horror films don't get this much discussion.
Paranormal Activity is a guilty pleasure for me, and i'm a little embarrassed to admit that i absolutely love all of them.
So i hope i will like vhs. Gore and such just does not scare me, period. All i ever feel is a little pity for the people who are being hurt. That being said, i LOVE horror movies...it's just the ones that i like are few and far between. They have to be perfect. For me, Paranormal Activity was the first movie to actually frighten me. I see it as like the anti-saw. Insidious was amazing too.
Thinking about checking out V/H/S tonight.
i wish SOMEBODY would watch S&Man (Sandman) and talk about it with me...i created a thread for it but no replies. It's on netflix!

The sequel is coming out on demand on June 6th.

It's always strange when a trailer promises that this one is actually good and way better than the original.

i finally watched this thing...i wouldn't say it was SCARY (and im not trying to be a tough guy, movies just don't tend to scare me...EXCEPT paranormal activity and insidious.)
But this one was damn sure entertaining and damn sure CREEPY, and it was pretty bad-ass that it had 6 stories...no "drag time." All killer, no filler.

V/H/S 2 is out, is awesome

I saw V/H/S 2 last night, and it was easily 2x as good as the first. It's much more cohesive, there's more (jet black) humor, the wraparound stuff is actually creepy (instead of just watching a handful of turbodouches get picked off), and the shorts themselves (there are 4 of them) are superior. It's at a high rental price right now since it's pre-theatrical ($9.99) but if you're on the fence either because the first one was only so-so or you think you're sick of found footage, give it a try anyway. (Put another way: if you're in this thread, you won't regret the rental.)

Me and my girl love the first V/H/S except for that segment in the woods with the distorted guy (which was straight up b-movie)

We watched it last night and found the sequel to be terrible... I keep hearing everyone say that this one is better in every way.
I felt the opposite.. everything good about the first one was ruined.

What made the first one good was that it felt more realistic... this just felt too Hollywood.

None of the segments were engaging and really took you out of the "this is really happening" feel... just felt like a b-movie.
With horrible effects, acting, and all.

The Cult segment started off promising and then just went downhill. There's even a moment that we literally laughed out loud how horribly stupid it looked.

The first movie was more down to earth... even when it was being over the top. But it at least had a snuff film vibe for most of the segments. In this one, everything felt like a movie... super fake and not believable. It was so much in fact, that it took you out of the whole vibe. Just make it a regular movie then... cuz the first person doesn't work with this new Hollywood style. Especially how the segment had all of these different angles... which defeats the purpose. It's like "who the hell edited this together?" if it's suppose to be found footage.

I think they went the completely wrong direction with this one.

If I saw this in the theater, we would have walked out. I want my $10 and 1 hour and a half back.
