    Awaiting season 10...

I wish Fox would get their head out of their ass and release season 9 on blu-ray. They only released it on DVD for some reason. It makes no sense. They made 1-4 on DVD (since blu-ray wasn't out and big) then they made 5-8 on blu-ray along with the Christmas special. 9 is DVD only. WTF?

So are you guys watching this? This season is so good, the dating-ep, the Birdman-one-shot-ep and the last one - first time I have heard the words "asian creampie" in a prime-time comedy show

Agreed. They are killing it this season. My favorite episode so far has to be the dating app episode. "I'M A FIVE STAR MAN!!"

Charlie Work was actually meant to reference True Detective, hence Dennis saying "Alright, alright, alright." The crew said they hadn't seen Birdman yet.

I can't think of any series that was this fantastic still in their 10th season. Frank's "It's a thing" moment was hysterical. As was the Froggy storyline. Dennis is just getting scarier, Mac gayer and Dee's physical comedy is on a new level.

Yeah, that whole Frog storyline in that episode was seriously dark and messed up.

On topic, I think Dennis is a sociopath. He's incredibly narcissistic, emits a bit of superiority over everyone and has little regards for any woman's feelings overall, minus Dee (sometimes). So yeah.

    I like this season.

This season is going surprisingly well so far. Not that they wer bad but 6-9. Represents something of a decline in my opinion, and for some reason they havent quite had the same magic. I cant put my finger on it.

Here in 10, there's a new magic. I am assuming that in both cases there is some kind of shift in the writing room. Charlie Work is the obvious one here, i am not sure if the long take means its based on anything but it was impressive and it gives us our first ever tour of the bar, which is apprently a whole bar instead of a studio set? I had no idea. Insane performances in that one, with Charlie Day firing on all cylinders.

Also the plane episode was amazing. Sunny has fallen on a lot of gimmicks in the last few years, but with this one they went in many different directions than you would expect. Im glad they still got it.

The best so far (to me) was the Online Dating episode. Episodes that make Dennis look like a dumbass make me laugh.

I have to agree. My stomach hurt from laughing so much throughout the episode...no other show does this for me at the moment.

I thought the last two episodes were the weakest in a while. Not so much the game show one but certain "Mac Kills His Dad" or whatever. Before that the season was going super strong and had a lot of standout moments, for me anyway.

Tonight's season 12 premiere was weird as hell but also very fucking funny. This show doesn't back down from anything and it's still as funny and fresh over 12 years later. So awesome.

i haven't watched the show since a couple episodes into the sixth season, but my friend Randall wrote a fascinating article about Dennis' insanity that i had never really considered before

My wife and I have watched several marathon runs of this show and came to a very similar conclusion that Dennis has taken a slow turn towards mental instability. It becomes more and more apparent but is a welcome detail when the mask comes off. Thanks for sharing this!

Charlie has a bit of a similar edge to him as well that comes out in certain circumstances but it's almost assumed there's consistently something wrong with him. The backstory about his mom is probably a good indicator of why.

last night was interesting. some really funny parts some just ok. musical episodes are usually on point with these guys.

i thought frank and dee's song about the N word was hysterical. and Charlie playing with the train in the police station was great too.

they're def not shying away from controversial topics.

It was a great season premier, I hope they keep up the great quality.
My all time favorite scenes is from the Christmas special they did a few years ago.
It always manages to make me laugh hysterically no mater how many times I see it.

Unfortunately he missed a vital episode and scene from his specific episode moments. He has a mini meltdown in "The Return of Psycho Pete" in season 10 when he talks about making Dee's skin and other's into lampshades and suitcases and putting body parts on display.

I can't believe some people thought this week's episode was racist. I thought quite the opposite. Also, good to see them do an episode where I don't have to worry about whether I'm eating in front of it!

    Necromancy incoming.

I've got two episodes left from my Always Sunny binge, but I feel like I've seen enough that I can comment now. Just like with Breaking Bad, I am reaaaaaaaally glad I gave this show a chance, and that I did not have to wait from week to week and from season to season in order to continue. There were only 3 seasons where I was worried that the quality of the show may go down:
    - First two episodes of season 2. I knew everyone was crazy for Danny Devito, but his introductory first two episodes were pretty ass. I did not like his character at all, and how he made everyone else less funny. But from ep 3. onwards it started to click, and one of my all time favorite episodes is when Mac bangs Frank's wife.
    - Season 9. It was the first season where I felt the "South Park effect", by which I mean that some episodes were extremely in your face. Sunny always had some social commentary, I mean the very first episode has topics like racism and homosexuality, but until that gun episode it was never so obvious that the gang took sides. I'm personally not a fan when shows do this, because it's kind of the lazy approach, but despite this, Season 9 had some of the funniest moments up until that point, so overall I didn't mind, though S10 was like one of the bests.
    - Season 13... I still have two episodes left, but unless something extraordinary happens, it is going to be by far the worst season ever. I mean, I have watched 142 episodes so far, and only two made me question why the fuck am I not just skipping them: The Gang Does A Clip Show (S13) and Charlie's Home Alone (S13). Even worse yet, these aired as back to back episodes, so I can't even imagine the disappointment of the fans. I know the actors are spread thin, but either skip a season (worked wonders for S10), make the seasons shorter, or pull the plug entirely. It's one thing to do a lazy episode (ie. S11E01), but the clip show and the Charlie special were lazy AND godawful. These are DVD extras at best.

Anyway, this show is such a fairy tale for the actors and the creators. Rob couldn't even afford rent according to him, and this made him a millionaire - and I'm sure the others are well off too! It was such a breath of fresh air how they have done away with soooo many comic tropes and clichés. Ie. CHarlie and the Waitress would have been a 3 seasons long misery in TBBT, where in the end they get togheter. In Always Sunny it's just a throwaway gag which keeps getting darker and more sad. I also loved how up until Season 9, nothing was really explained to the viewer. I had no idea whether the writers of those episodes wanted me to swing one way or another, because they made every ideology look bad a little, without talking too much about it. Also, it was pretty rare to begin with that an ideology was a center of an episode.

I also loved how some of the side-characters evolved without being overused. On that note, I really miss the McPoyles.

It's a shame they never even got a proper Emmy nomination, given how they had some really cool special episodes, like The Nightman Cometh or The High School Reunion episodes. Though maybe a cult following means more than some shiny awards, dunno.

Even if the last remaining two episodes will be just as bad as the clip show and home alone, I'll be still looking forward S14, because you can never know with these guys.

@Volband , I agree the Home Alone episode is probably the worst in the series, but I liked the clip show episode. I actually watched every episode week to week since season 6, but I also just recently binged the entire thing since my girlfriend had never seen it, and I honestly like the show even more now. It's amazing how often they do call backs to earlier episodes that I never noticed because I just forgot things with so many weeks/months/years in between.

Yes, I suppose calling the clip show bad does not do it justice, but like 40% of it is reused material and that is not okay. It reminded me of filler episodes back when I was watching series from the national televisions, and they had to fill up their 22/24 episodes per season quota.

Watched the second part of the Super Bowl, and it was pretty good, it also had a pay-off in the end, so all in all, the two episodes would have made one pretty good one, but honestly, it is even more baffling to me why they chose to do it this way. We could have had two episodes where the screen time were shared by everyone.

And the last episode is another example of weird Sunny episodes, which are at the very least Emmy-nomination worthy. Do we know which episode they submit to the people? Not only it's quite artistic, sweet, yet quite funny in the first half, it also tackles a sensitive issue which "award people" eat up. And imo, here it was done a cool, non-intrusive, non-judmental, non-lecturing way.

All in all, worst season by far, but I really, really enjoyed the escape room, seminar and new cars episodes. I also didn't mind the lady episode, because it was quite self-aware and funny, even though the gang should never be broken up. Probably the best "solo" episode was Frank's.

All I wish for season 14 is that Dennis is prominently featured, like before, because he (and everyone else) is needed for this show to be great.

As for the callbacks, I'm so-so about them. It's great when Cricket, Ponsy, the waiter or the others show up occasionally, but when the whole episode is about callbacks, it feels like a high-school reunion. It's great once in a while, but it gets a bit sad when all you can talk about is how great you were. And Always Sunny doesn't need some deep plot to explore for it to excel. Just put the gang into any situation, and let them ruin it for everyone involved, learning nothing from it.

This was a really good episode. No reused gags, no deep moral dilemmas, every cast member could shine, and of course, quite inappropriate and evil.
