Bit of a silly trailer, I assume they're implying that there will be more non-warfare intrigue in this one.
That aside, can't wait. Aside from the classical Mediterranean being my favourite chunk of history, the original Rome Total War had a unique kind of atmosphere, very beautiful and lonely. And charging a horde of elephants across north Africa was great fun.
I hope they improve the city construction aspect though - every building having a set number of turns made growth seem frustrating and arbitrary. I don't know what they've done to improve it in more recent Total War games, I haven't played one since Medieval 2.

yeah the live action trailer is lame.

    Space Suicide

In Total War games you control your empire on the campaign map.

Each region has a capital city that you can set the taxes, upgrade buildings, recruit units.
When diplomacy doesn't work you can move your armies to invade other nations. When two or more armies meet, the camera zooms down to the ground and you can control the battle, with thousands of troops.

It's pretty bad ass If you're into strategy games.

I've been playing Medieval 2 Total War since it came out.
People have been waiting for a sequel to Rome for a long time.

Yeah - the concept is that it's Civilization's turn-based empire building combined with Age of Empires' real-time combat, to give you the ultimate historical strategy game. The extra element thrown in is that the combat is strategic and realistic, there was even a TV series at one point (Time Commanders) which used the game to simulate great historic battles. Total War is an essential series to try if you've ever felt the slightest interest in strategy or god games.

Really surprised you haven't heard of it, Space Suicide - not into PC games?

Ah, I get the theme of the game but such games aren't for me. Best I got into this genre was Advance Wars on the Gameboy Advance way back in the day.

I've watched my friend play Tropico and Civilization Revolution. Kinda neat but not for me.

Never heard of this game series and I'm intermediate in all things when it comes to games. Even PC games, even though I don't play them. But yeah, haha. Surprise!

    - Macedon
    - Iceni (brits)
    - Averni (Gauls)
You can read about them here. http://wiki.totalwar.com/w/Factions
