Great, I'm glad you're here. We started season one this weekend and made it through four episodes. We're still not sure what the show is about, really. It starts like there's a mystery but so far it's just Agatha Christie on whatever drugs the girls have in their bag.
Cristobal Tapia de Veer does an amazing job with the music when it fits the scene. The problem is that his stuff doesn't fit every scene and the juxtaposition of minimalism with the lush canopy of Hawai'i doesn't always fit. I'm used to his stuff from "Black Mirror", "Utopia", and "Humans" so this is a weird swing.
Also every scene with Jennifer Coolidge is so off kilter. I get that's her schtick but sometimes it's like they go into some of her scenes without a script at all. Just, "ACTION", and see what happens.

after sitting through some real WTF movies where the director was the writer, my wife and I instituted a rule that there has to be a compelling reason to watch a movie beyond "hey this guy/gal is acting in it so it might be good".

JESUS god, you guys MUST watch The Real Charlie Chaplin doc from last year.
It's straight up one of the best documentary films i've ever seen: it's one of those transcendent things about a man, but also the many facets of ANY man, and the ups and downs and fears and doubts and triumphs and failures of Life In General.
It might not work AS well if you know a WHOLE hell of a lot of the details of the man's life, but even if you do, the way this thing is put together...i say goddamn.
SERIOUSLY, watch this one.

Loved how they added extra time with his daughter to build empathy. Also dug the DM song used to close it out (always been my favorite of theirs), signaling both "danger" and setting the tone for the fucked up journey that they started. Really looking forward to the rest of this!

I was shocked at how well done the first episode was. And yes, stuck pretty close to the game, despite the fast pace. The show is def. moving quickly. I think that probably has alot to do w/Pascal being their lead, as he is not going to do this show for 5 or 6 seasons considering all his other big time commitments.

I was sent a free ticket from A24 to see BBB in theaters. I thought it was fine at the time but I think I've grown to like it. I think about it from time to time for no reason so I guess it's like an earworm that you wake up with in that regard. A nice mix of trope subversion and expansion at the same time.
Also one of my brother-in-laws is definitely the Pete Davidson character, he would 100% do that.

I knew next to nothing about Infinity Pool before going into it apart from having seen Possessor. The edible kicked in right at the start of the movie and the whole thing was a trip. I didn't love everything about it, but the movie stayed with me.

That looks similar to that Sandy B movie she did with Channing Tatum. and I only say 'looks' because of the romance cover and the easy/entertaining aspect. Also there's a Romeo Juliet thing on Disney+ for the next couple of days that looks like some dumb fun. I dunno, anachronisms are hit or miss and this could miss big, but then it is free so what do I care.
