Parasite is awesome. I am seriously impressed with Boong Joon-ho, because I can't even say anything bad about it. It's easily a 10/10, but not necessarily because it would have been impossible to do better, but rather because what it wanted to do, it did perfectly, without any bullshit, and it felt like every fucking shot, every fucking sentence mattered.

Also, it struck an amazing mixture of being accessible and artistic. It doesn't feel cheap, nor pretentious. I've read some reviews, and I am not even sure if I 100% agree with who this movie criticizes, because in a way, every single character (bar the children, as they are just that) can be liked or hated. I mean, if you tell me before the movie that one of the main characters will be a dirty rich, gullible and simple lady, I would have been so annoyed, but the superb writing, acting and cinematography made me like her the most.

I've been already in awe from Boong Joon-ho's previous work, The Host, one of my favorite movies, but Parasite just strengthened my belief that he is amazing, so I am going to have to go through his entire film catalogue, which is sadly not too big, so I'm going to have to savior it. Then I can pretend for 1 month that I am a movie expert.

Anyway, definitely recommended for everyone. The biggest drawback of the movie are probably the flattering reviews like mine (it has 100% on RT after 100+ reviews), because once again, a 10/10 can mean different things for everyone, so don't go in with an "I'm gonna show them!!" attitude, it's fine if you just enjoyed it, and not really fucking enjoyed it.

Good lord. Tonight's season 4 episode 1 for Mr. Robot was quite the ride. One of the best episodes on TV that I've seen in a long time. I'll so miss this show when it's over at the end of this season.

Haha, I've visited your movie thread a few times after I posted my comment, because I was thinking about telling you to consider giving it a try, but ultimately decided not to, becuase a.) I don't know how widespread it will be in the theaters, and you said you only watch movies there and b.) from your list I figured you are more into mainstream movies. I am very glad life had found a way and ultimately delivered my recommendation to you!

Enjoy it! And definitely give The Host a try as well if you hadn't already. It's a bit tougher to digest, and doesn't have the unrivaled paciing of Parasite, but it's a bit stronger on the dramatic side.

Anyone watching the Mayans on FX? Spin-off of Sons of Anarchy. I like it a lot.

Yeah i do prefer the more mainstream stuff, but i do also like to give more left field stuff a try. I'm hoping this gets a wider release over here (it should given how much people are raving about it) I'm looking forward to it

^^I have been DYING to see Parasite. My mom said she might want to see it so I might have to wait for her but it's going to kill me. If I end up seeing the Breaking Bad movie AND that this weekend that will be a hell of a one-two punch.

Anyway, I saw this about a week ago and it was fantastic.

Parasite will be here in Phoenix this weekend. We get a shocking number of indie and arthouse movies.

Jay & Silent Bob Reboot is a huge trash heap. I'm so mad at myself for letting my View Askew nostalgia get the better of me.

This was solid but not stunning or anything. Good performances from the 3 principals. I would watch Weisz in pretty much anything.

This was good too, but def. has it's problems. Brad Pitt is phenomenal. Really great job of emoting so much but in an extremely subtle way. Tommy Lee Jones is cast perfectly in this and is great too in a limited role. This movie is a sloooooooooow burn. Be warned. It's worth it, but man does it really leave the audience to quietly (or silently) ponder things for long periods of time. Obviously will remind you of Interstellar, Gravity & 2001: A Space Odyssey throughout. Movie looks gorgeous & has amazing sound design too. But there are some really dumb & unbelievable things that happen plotwise that will make you scratch your head. Those things drag down the movie a bit. Was left annoyed or confused by things too many times.

Woooooaaah SEE THIS MOVIE ASAP! And do not watch a trailer or read anything about it. It's best to go in completely blind. If you're a fan of Bong Joon Ho (I loved The Host & Snowpiercer), you will love this even more b/c you know his style & you see it throughout. But even if you've never heard of him, you will probably love this. It's def. one of the year's best movies. Keep in mind it's a Korean movie with Korean subtitles. The movie works on so many different levels.

Fractured (Netflix), one of the worst movies I've seen - in a sense that it was very uncomfortable for me to watch, the movie is great. Strictly speaking probably nothing new but fuck me I was thinking "no no no no... or maybe? god please no..." the whole time, like almost everything I fear was in there.

Finally got around to watching "Method in the Madness", I liked it. I dug it. In a weird way, I got a "Zero Effect" vibe from it.

Not a word; and only read one anthology by Gaiman. Just not my style I suppose.

Totally possible, he brought a lot of irreverent humor to the story that is different than Gaiman's stuff.

Didn't see a thread but Dr. Sleep was pretty solid. Not a perfect movie but for a King adaptation it was pretty good. Bits reminded me of the Librarian short story. Its interesting to see cross over elements from his various works.

The whole movie reminded me of another movie I liked...down to the score even. Then I googled the director and realized this was the same director that did The Machinist with Christian Bale which I like better. This wasn’t a bad movie, but I felt like I saw it the first time with The Machinist. If you haven’t seen that one, you should.

i've never read a king book (my wife has read quite a few, including the shining and doctor sleep). we re-watched the shining before going to the theater for doctor sleep last week (early screening) and she and i both really enjoyed it. interesting story, great connections to the original movie (and apparently incorporated parts of the original shining book that didn't make it into that film), and wonderfully creepy but also fun.

just go into whatever subsection of the forum you'd like and start a new thread! make sure you spell your thread title right, though, because otherwise you'll have to ask an admin to change it later haha
