Set It Off came on today and it has been YEARS since I've sat down and watched it. Brings forward some great social issues we are talking about to this day, but this song came on during a sex scene and I forgot how damn good it is.
for the first time in a while, I'm really digging into mainstream music that's being pushed by whatever the labels are now. I want to hear some new pop that makes me say "how did they do that?"
I'm not into most of it.
But I just threw on the new Alice Merton album, S.I.D.E.S. and I'm actually liking it so far. It's well informed pop with nods to electro and in the best way pop can pull off. It's still vocally driven music, but the lyrics aren't cringe, and I like her voice. Reminds me a bit of the better stuff from The Cardigans... but really it's this pretty-great mashup of so many good genres used cleverly to propel these vocal hooks, and it works.
This isn't a big recommendation, and the first half of the album's a lot better than the second, but it was interesting.
This song is still one of THE best songs ever written or recorded, ever. On one of the best albums, ever. From one of the best rock n rolls bands, ever.
