I think metal is totally ripe for a revolution at the moment. That retro 80s thrash crap has gotten old. Metal needs to reach out to other genres again for inspiration, instead of just looking inwards back to old metal. I think djent is on the right path, looking to jazz, classical, electro/ambient for ideas. The movement just needs the right band to make a mark.

    Currently been listening to:

Some elements of Clutch and FNM.

agreed. pleasantly surprised by how good it is, considering the lead-off single did little for me. been toggling between that and the my bloody valentine remasters this morning. it's like the 90s in my brain and everyone's invited.

I've always had a soft spot for really nasty death metal. This album kills.

Yeah they didn't go anywhere, but that style of TKK, maybe I am just missing all that wax trax! era..

Either way, I am loving this song, reminds me of American McGee's Alice and surprising Vrenna is not listed in the credits for this one?

This video of Tricky playing a HEAVY instrumental version of "Past Mistake" (maybe he does it all the time, I don't know, but it kicks ass) at a festival in Poland, Sosnoweic. FUCK. It's SO good. If there was ever a time where I've wanted to use my computer screen as a portal to go INTO a video, this would be it. And this beats out any kind of porn. I still kick myself for not seeing him on tour, I should've made that drive.

Anyone who knows Woodkid knows "Iron" (the song from the Assassin's Creed Revelations trailer). But this EASILY beats it out as my new favorite song of his, and it's not even out yet.

Although the rest of his stuff isn't as fast-paced, it's still some beautiful work. I can't wait for his full-length to come out this fall.

Not going to lie: the first time I heard "What Girls Are Made Of", I thought of you.

It's STUPID how many times I've listened to this song/video already. I have a feeling that if he keeps this up, The Golden Age could be my favorite album of 2012.
