As you may know, it is - like many of the great Zeppelin songs - a rock version of a traditional blues song. They changed it a lot from some of the earlier versions.
Been on a Zeppelin kick this week, what with the deluxe editions, and I naturally migrated to this album.
With all the lame wanna be's out there, I forget how incredible and brutal this band is.
I believe their rendition was far more influenced by Bob Dylan's recording for his first (self-titled) LP, though certainly some of the group were aware of earlier arrangements. Jimmy's and John Paul's licks seem to be mostly improvised, and bear little relationship to the folk-blues traditional style.
Here is the Dylan recording, which was also done in a single take.

Still a classic...
Best to play this when I do online multiplayer gaming and I'm a kill streak of some sort.
Narrow Stairs by Death Cab for Cutie.
"The wake up call in a rented room sounded like an alarm of impending doom, to warn us it's all a matter of time, before we all burn."
"And when spring arrived, we were taken by surprise as the flows under our feet, bled into the sea, and nothing was left, for you and me."
Some of Ben's best, bleakest lyrics in this. "The news reports on the radio said it was getting worse, As the ocean air fanned the flames; But I couldn't think of anywhere I would have rather been, To watch it all burn away, to burn away. The firemen worked in double shifts, with prayers for rain on their lips, and they knew it was only a matter of time."
In constant rotation. "Synapse to synapse, the possibilities thin, I'm dressed up for free drinks and family greetings on your wedding, your wedding, your wedding day, the figures in plastic on your wedding cake, that I took, were so real ... Crashing through the parlor doors, what was your first reaction? Screaming, drunk, disorderly, I'll tell you mine: You were the one but I can't, Spit it out when the date's been set, The white routine to be ingested inaccurately."
@kleiner352 "we have the facts..." has always been my favorite death cab album.
This has been stuck in my head for a while and if anyone has a problem with this song, then fuck you....

I never really listened to much of The Creatures stuff back in the day, beyond Anima Animus and the Wild Things EP anyway. Going back now I'm really enjoying pretty much all of their stuff. The US Retrace EP is particularly good - a really strong collection of singles tracks from the Anima Animus period.
Can't get it out of my head...
Been listening to this constantly lately. Fantastic. Could listen to No Shows, How's It Going to Be, Brother and Zero Zero way too much (and I am).
finally got around to listening to this album today
