Sigh. Heard “Head Like a Hole” on the radio for the first time.

It was the classic rock station.

there's a new show on Apple TV+ called "Monster Factory" , a documentary series about indie wrestling. Saw a NIN shirt in the last episode of the series.

Linkin Park's 20th Anniversary edition of Meteora came out today and in the box set are two new versions of their cover of Wish as part of the two live shows from 2004 included in the set.

I know this is kind of cheating since it's Spotify but on the Spotify 808 Classics playlist they put Down In It on there. Why is this cool you ask? For those who don't know the Roland TR-808 is a legendary drum machine that was used primarily in Hip-Hop and R&B so it's cool to see NIN get a nod thrown in there after all Pretty Hate Machine has a lot of Hip Hop influence going on.

Respect! I got a TR-08 boutique right before the pandemic, and the very first thing I programmed was Down In It.

Around the seven minute mark, Maynard talks about stealing melodies from Trent, from TF specifically...pretty damn funny

Doesn't say anything about melodies. Pretty sure it goes deeper than that: beats, textures, harmonies, chord changes, etc. ETS and Toolshed people would've found out all the stolen melodies long ago. It can as well be just maynardspeak for "getting inspiration from <smth>".

a.k.a. stealing as a artist, which it was what he meant by stealing melodies

With all due respect,.he's SPECIFICALLY talking about stealing notes, and notes = melodies, and he's talking about HIS work, as a singer: not drum beats and chords and such.

They're talking about songs from Thirteenth Step.
    Idk. I think it's adorable.

I DO agree that he means "inspired by," though.

Counterpoint: Weak and Powerless, the song in question, is "stealing" a drum beat from a Tapeworm song, which was later reinterpreted by Puscifer under the title Potions. Trivia: Though Trent wrote the beat, it would have been Josh Freese playing it in Tapeworm, and in A Perfect Circle - although in the Puscifer song, the beat is briefly heard at the beginning before the song drops into half-time, and is performed by Tim Alexander - the original drummer for A Perfect Circle, before Freese joined.

So he's specifically talking about drum beats (and drums can be notated using notes while also not being melodic) and they're all friends anyway!

    I feel you, @Leviathant .

However, note the question from this Beato: "...it's the NOTE choices that you make, that I call 'haunting tones.' Is this the way that you hear these things, or, do you experiment and LOOK for places to go to these particular notes?"

Then, MJK mentions the "professional steal." He mentions PJ Harvey, and then, "Trent, on The Fragile: he's stealing shit all over that album, but I'M stealing from his stolen goods."

Obviously, MJK isn't a studio drummer, to my knowledge.

I'm damn sure not saying these cats aren't friends. But, unless MJK was veering away from the question, wildly, I'm PRETTY sure he's talking about vocal melodies.

Just my humble opinion. I'm just a Humble Tumbleweed.

I listened to a snippet on iTunes and they censored the curse words. Is the version released uncensored?

Holy f'n shit, this is amazing.

Really tempted to deconstruct the video, there's so much footage here.

I thought the Copper/Flood Mix was readily available? I swear I've had it on Digibeta/DVD since the early aughts.

*edit* Seems like I can be organized sometimes. Alas, I have no idea as to the origins of this VHS comp. I guess it's not readily available as it hasn't shown up on any official releases or online profiles.

There's a different YouTube of the Copper video that's been online for a while, here:

It does have a couple seconds dropout right before the clapperboard appears, so it's nice to have one on YouTube that is complete.

The Hard Times ranked every NIN album.

"Nine Inch Nails is a hard band to categorize. Best known as the side project of the guy that created the award-winning music for Pixar’s “Soul,” it has something for everyone."

    Haha yup
